5. SPECIAL MEETING ITEMS
Consider Proposals of Licensed Environmental
Consultants Regarding City-Owned Oil and Fuel
Storage Tanks
The City Manager gave a brief history of events
leading to this meeting and introduced Gary Purdy,
Indian River County Health Department and agent for
Department of Environmental Regulation, who clarified
for City Council the three areas of the city at which
fuel storage tanks were found not to be in compliance
although, he said, steps had been taken by staff to
eliminate hazards in certain areas. Mr. Purdy
recommended that an operational audit be conducted at
the Golf Course in regard to the handling of
hazardous chemicals and advised that the city must
hire a licensed contractor to remove the storage
tanks.
Following a brief discussion of the matter, it was
the consensus of Council to review proposals further
and defer the matter to the January 2, 1990 workshop.
