SEBASTIAN CON~, ,TRUCTION BOARD,-~U~R ~ETI~G - 9/11/97
MOST OF THE HOUSES BEING AFFECTED ARE STUCCO SIDED HOUSES
WHERE THE STUCCO IS BEING BROUGHT DOWN INTO THE GROUND FOR
COSMETIC PURPOSES. THIS LEAVES A VOID BEHIND THE STUCCO FOR THE
TERMITES TO COME UP FROM THE DIRT, BEHIND THE STUCCO AND INTO
THE WOOD FRA_MING.
MR. BONACCI EXPLAINED THAT A TERMITE SHtF-LD IS A SHEET METAL
PLATE THAT SETS BETWEEN THE CONCRETE SLAB, THE BOTTOM PT PLATE
AND IS BENT TO GO OVER THE EDGE OF THE FOUNDATION AND HAS A LiP
TO RECEiVE THE SUB-SIDING, THE LATHE OR PLASTERING OR n: YOU USE
T-111, IT SITS ON THERE SO THAT THE TERMITES COMING OUT OF THE
GROUND, GET BEHIND THE SI-HELD, HIT THE TOP OF THE METAL SHIELD
AND THEY CAN'T GO ANYWHERE. TI-RS WILL STOP THE STUCCO FROM
BEING PUT DOWN INTO THE GROUND. IT WILL BE GIVEN A STRAIGHT
COSMETIC LOOK WHERE THE FOUNDATION WiLL BE EXPOSED A NORMAL
SIX INCHES.
ALLEN GREEN FROM HOLIDAY BUILDERS SAID THAT IT WAS A FHA
REQUIREMENT THAT YOU AT LEAST USE STUCCO STOP.
MOTION BY VICE CHAIRMAN MOSBY, SECONDED BY MR. HEARNE THAT
THE BUILDING DEPARTMENT DRAFT AN AMENDMENT TO THE CITY
ORDINANCE, SEC. 26.31 THAT WOULD REQUIRE ALL WOOD FRAME
BUILDINGS TO HAVE A TERMITE SHIELD INSTALLED ON THE EXTERIOR
WALLS BETWEEN THE BOTTOM PLATE AND SLAB WITH EITHER SIDING OR
STUCCO AND ALL MASONRY BLOCK STRUCTURES TO HAVE STUCCO
STOPS.
ROLL CALL WAS TAKEN.
MOTION CARRIED 7-0.
MR. BONACCI HAD A BRIEF DISCUSSION CONCERNING A NEW FLOOR
COVERING, THAT THERE WAS A GENTLEMAN WHO WANTED TO INSTALL
IN SEBASTIAN BUT HE ONLY HAD APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR OF
EXPERIENCE IN DOING IT. BECAUSE IT WAS SOMETHING NEW HE ASKED
THE BOARD IF THE EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT COULD BE WAIVED.
