A RESOLUTION URGING THE COUNTY COMMISSION
TO ADOPT A FOUR CENTS PER GALLON GASOLINE
TAX AS PROVIDED BY CHAPTER 83-3, LAWS
OF FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of
Florida has authorized the counties in the state to levy
up to a four cents tax on each gallon of gasoline sold
in that county; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature has directed that
said funds collected from the imposition of said gasoline
tax be used for the construction and maintenance of
county and municipal roads and streets; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature has further directed
the counties who desire to levy such optional gasoline
tax to negotiate a formula for distribution of said funds
with the municipalities within the county; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sebastian has analyzed
its road construction and road maintenance capital
expenditure needs for the next five years; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sebastian has determined
that a substantial sum of money will be necessary in order
to properly maintain the existing roads and construct the
necessary roads to meet the needs of the community; and
WHEREAS, the four cents gasoline tax would
provide an expanding source of revenue to meet these needs;
and
WHEREAS, the imposition of a gasoline tax would
assist local taxpayers by charging of the actual users of
said streets and roads, including drivers from out of state,
for the maintenance and use of said roads; and
WHEREAS, the adoption of said gasoline tax is in
the best interests of the citizens of the City and the
entire county.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
