A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, INDIAN
RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, REQUESTING TttE BREVARD
METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION AND THE
FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO CONSIDER
FUNDING A FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR A BRIDGE LINKING
U.S. 1 AND HIGHWAY AIA NEAR STATE ROAD 514
(MALABAR ROAD).
WHEREAS, the Palm Bay Area Chamber of Commerce has
requested the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)
to initiate a feasibility study for the construction of a
bridge across the Indian River near State Road 514 (Malabar
Road), and
WHEREAS, the Palm Bay Area Chamber of Commerce
has asked the City of Sebastian to provide support for the
undertaking of such a feasibility study, and
WHEREAS, the construction of such a bridge is
included in the year 2000 road program which has been adopted
by the Brevard Metropolitan Planning Organization (BMPO), and
WHEREAS, it has been determined by the BMPO that
the construction of such a bridge would assist in meeting a
future transportation need for South Brevard County, and
WHEREAS, priorities for funding of projects included
in the year 2000 road. program must be determined by the BMPO
before funding wi. il be considered by FDOT, and
WHEREAS, the City of Sebastian feels that the
priority for the construction of such a bridge needs to be
considered by the BMPO in light of the other needed trans-
portation improvements for South Brevard County (i.e., U.S.1
corridor improvements, Wickham Road widening, etc.) which
are included in the year 2000 road program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, THAT:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Sebastian
hereby formally requests the BMPO to give consideration to
assigning priority and funding for a feasibility study to
be undertaken by FDOT for the construction of a bridge linking
U.S. 1 and Highway AIA near Malabar Road, with due con-
sideration to the other transportation improvements for South
Brevard County which are identified in the year 2000 road
program°
SECTION 2. The Mayor is authorized and directed to
provide copies of this Resolution to the BMPO, FDOT, the
Palm Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, and other municipalities
in South Brevard.
SECTION 3. This Resolution was duly adopted at
a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
Sebastian, Indian River County, Florida on the /~
