HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-85-59RESOLUTION NO. 7 I~'° A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, AMENDING THE JOB DESCRIPTION OF "POLICE OFFICER" IN SECTION V OF THE CITY'S STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES AND THEREBY ADDING THE DUTY OF ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER WHEN ASSIGNED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AND TO PERFORM RELATED WORK; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Mayor and Chief of Police have requested the City Council amend the Job Description for "Police Officer" in Part V of the City's Standard Operating Procedures and thereby add to the duties of "Police Officer" to act as Animal Control Officer when assigned by the Chief of Police and to perform related duties, and, WHEREAS, subparagraph (b)(1) of Section 2-4 of City Ordinance No. 0-84-16, enacted on September 12, 1984, provides that the said Job Description can be amended by a Resolution of the City without a public hearing thereon, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Sebastian having considered the reasons for the request of the Chief of Police and the Mayor, finds that the request should be granted; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: 1. That the words: "Assumes duties of Animal Control Officer when assigned by the Chief of Police. Performs related work as required." be added to the Illustrative duties of the "Police Officer" Job Description. 2. That the City Clerk amend the said Job Description as spec- ified herein, add the following to the bottom of the amended Job Description: "As amended by Resolution No.~-~ ", and to provide copies of the amended description to the Mayor, Members of the City Council, and Department Heads for inclusion into Part V of their copies of the Standard Operating Procedures. 3. Knowledge of the laws of arrest, laws of search and s~lzure, rules of evidence and court procedures. Knowledge of control1109 laws and o~Oinances. KnowleOge of first aid methods. Ability to observe situations analytically and objectively and to re- port and record them clearly and completely. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies. Training an~ Experience; Graduation from high school or equivalent certification and com- pletion of minimum standards courses set by Florida Police Stan- dards Councll (mlnimum certificate).
