HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-86-52A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, ADDING A NEW JOB DESCRIPTION TITLED "VEHICLE MAINTENANCE FORE- MAN" TO PART V OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, The City Council hereby approves a new Job Description titled "Vehicle Maintenance Foreman" as submitted by the Mayor in accordance with Ordinance O-84-16, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: 1. The Job Description for "Vehicle Maintenance Foreman" attached hereto and made a part hereof is hereby approved and adopted by the City of Sebastian. 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to add to the bottom of the said Job Description the following: "Adopted by Resolution No._~_~t~'~, effective ~d~~ ~ .... , 1986." and to distribute copies of the said Job Description to the Mayor, City Council Members, and Department Heads for inclusion in Part V of their copies of the Standard Operating Procedures. 3. City Clerk CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA (L~ G?3FHarris, Mayor VEHICLE MAINTENANCE FOREMAN MAJOR FUNCTION This is supervisory work in the maintenance and .repair of gasoline and diesel driven automotive equipment. Works under the direction of Engineering/ 'Public Works Department. ILLUSTRATITE DUTIES Foreman _is responsible for preparing budgets and handles all paper work necessary for the day-to-day operation of vehicle maintenance Supervises mechanics in performance of their work. Does general and major overhaul and repair work on automobiles, light and heavy trucks, mowers, and other automotive, some diesel and mechanical equipment. Inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary units and .related parts, including valves, pistons and main bearing assemblies; cooling fuel and exhaust systems. Tunes motors using standard testing equipment. Repairs and overhauls brakes, transmissions, differentials, front and .rear axle assemblies. Repairs and installs hydraulic controls. Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles air compressors, pumps and related equipment. Inspects, repairs, overhauls and assembles automotive electric equipment such as generators, distributors, magnetos and starters. Repairs and welds automobile and truck bodies. Uses hand and power driven tools and equipment such as grinders, testing, and welding equipment and other garage shop tools and equipment. Performs related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of the construction, assembly, adjustment ~nd maintenance of a wide variety of automobiles, trucks, and diesel motors and other general and spec.~al automotive and diesel equipment. Knowledge of all types of shop tools. Ability to diagnose the more common defects of motors or broken parts, or wrongly adjusted part or assembly. Ability to keep records of repair and service operations, and to make .reports. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately. Journeyman level skill in the application of methods and techniques used in the automotive and diesel mechanic craft and in the care and use of pertinent tools, equipment and facilities. Training a_n_d E~erience: Must have six (6) years experience in auto mechanics, high school diploma or equivalent combination of training and experience. ADOPTED BY RESOLUTION NO.
