HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-86-53A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, ADDING A NEW JOB DESCRIPTION TITLED "CHIEF DISPATCHER-POLICE COMMUNICATIONS" TO PART V OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, The City Council hereby approves a new Job Description titled "Chief Dispatcher-Police Communications" as submitted by the Mayor in accordance with Ordinance O-84-16, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: 1. The Job Description for "Chief Dispatcher-Police Communications" attached hereto and made a part hereof is hereby approved and adopted by the City of Sebastian. 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to add to the bottom of the said Job Description the following: "Adopted by Resolution No.__~-~'~3 , effective LOc~~ [ , 1986." and to distribute copies of the said Job Description to the Mayor, City Council Members, and Department Heads for inclusion in Part V of their copies of the Standard Operating Procedures. 3. This Resolution shall be effective 1986. Ge~/~arris, Mayor Mai or FunCtion: This is a highly responsible position. The supervisor must have knowledge of all Rules & Regulations. This person must be able to handle all the technical proce- dures, confidentiality of the Cu~nications Division, schedule, records and clerical duties set within the established laws, rules and regulations of the Department. Illustrative Duties: Is responsible for makingwork schedules, keeping cu~nication record files in proper and complete order. Supervise the WOrking abilities, and day to day operation of the Ccrmunication Technician wi~ keeping all shifts attended. To provide a system of interstate ccn~nunications relating to crimes, criminal and police services. Tranmnit instructions, performs public relation functions with the public, depart- ment heads, officials and personnel. Dispatchespolice and other emergency vehicles. Performs related work and duties as required. MininumQualifiCatiOns: Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of ccmputerS or teletype machines, spelling, english, punctuation~ Knowledge of responsibilities and nature of confidential work. Knowledge of department rules', regulations, procedures, functions, personnel and the ability to work under stressful situations. Know- ledge of Federal and state RegUlations relating to NCIC/FCIC records. Ability to exercise sound judgement under complex work conditicns. Able to make decisions. Ability to type and keep accurate records. Must be able to work on a rotating shift schedule for twenty-four (24) hour a day coverage. Training and Experience: Graduate from high school or equivalent certification. Work experience in radio dispatching of emergency services. Qualifications: Must be of good character, good and clean reputation, excellent credit rating and one (1) year employment. Able to withstand a rigorous background investigation.
