A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, ADDING
A NEW JOB DESCRIPTION TITLED "CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER"
TO PART V OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN STANDARD OPERATING
PROCEDURES; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, The City Council hereby approves a new job
description entitled, "Code Enforcement Officer" as submitted by
the Mayor in accordance with City Ordinance O-84-16.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CiTY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
1. The Job Description for "Code Enforcement Officer"
attached hereto and made a part hereof is hereby approved and
adopted by the City Council for the City of Sebastian.
2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to add to the bottom
of the said Job Descripton the following; "Adopted by Resolution
No. R-87-53, effective August 12, 1987" and to distribute copies
of the Job Description to the Mayor, City Council members, and
Department Heads for inclusion in their copies of the Standard
Operating Procedures.
3. This Resolution shall be effective on August 12, 1987.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that this Resolution was passed by the City
Council of the City of Sebastian, Florida, on the 12th day of
August, 1987.

CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
MAJOR FUNCTION
This position deals with field inspection and Code Enforcement work in
securing compliance with Laws, Regulations and Ordinances governing land,
existing buildings or structures and related environmental conditions.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Conducts inspections and investigates complaints regarding Zoning and
Ordinance violations; schedules routine and followup inspections, and
periodic neighborhood surveys to determine violations.
Conducts inspections relating to acts of persons in violation of L~WS,
Codes and Regulations relating to any environmental factors affecting the
life, health and welfare of the community.
Prepares and maintains records and written reports of findings and initiates
correspondence and violation notices li~tingthe violations, and ordering
that appropriate remedial action be taken; initiates Code Enforcement Board
action against owner's failing to comply and serves as a witness against
the offender.
Utilizes Plat Books, microfilm viewer, interprets blueprints, plans, aerials
and manually researches records to identify, legal ownerships, locations and
Zoning classification of properties.
Performs related work as assigned by immediate supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Ability & Skills
Skill in the use of computer terminal, microfilm viewer, camera or other
office equipment used for researching information.
Ability to interpret and enforce Laws, Regulations and Codes with firmness,
tact and impartiality.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers
and the Public as necessitated by the job.
Ability to keep accurate records and maintain reports and case files.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, and to
understand and follow oral and written instructions.
