R-88-68 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, ADOPTING THE JOB DESCRIPTION OF THE OFFICE OF ASSISTANT PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR; PROVIDING FOR INCLUSION OF SUCH JOB DESCRIPTION IN THE CITY'S STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, The City Council has adopted a budget for the fiscal year commencing October 1, 1988; and WHEREAS, The budget so adopted provides that a job description shall be established for the Office of Assistant Public Works Director. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Sebastian, Indian River County, Florida, as follows: SECTION I The Job Description for the classification of Assistant Director of Public Works attached hereto as Exhibit "A" IS HEREBY ADOPTED. SECTION II The City Clerk is hereby directed to supply a copy of this new Job Description to City Council members and all department heads for inclusion in Part V of the Standard Operating Procedures of the City. The City Clerk shall note the number and date of this Resolution on the said Job Description. SECTION III This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. Plans, schedules and directs various public works projects concerned with the maintenance of streets, bridges, drainage, public buildings, City parks, cemetery and vehicle maintenance. ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES Supervises the schedul±ng and coordination of staffing and equipment for public works pro3ects. Makes periodic and special inspections of street maintenance and other public works projects. Performs employee evaluations. Monitors status of ongoing projects, delegates authority to subordinates and sees that work is completed in accordance with established schedules. Controls and monitors the purchasing of supplies. Maintains inventory of equipment, supplies and materials. Reviews all bids received and makes recommendations to the Public Works Director. Performs related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Ability to plan and supervise the work of municipal public works maintenance activities. Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment common to streets, bridges and drainage maintenance. Knowledge of methods, material and equipment common to landscaping and grounds maintenance, building maintenance and vehicle maintenance. Knowledge of civil engineering practices as they pertain to street and drainage maintenance. Ability to prioritize and establish timetables for projects. Knowledge of new technology and methods of construction and maintenance. Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with the public, employees and officials. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from High School or equivalent. The required skills would normally be acquired through several years of experience in Public Works or similar work in the private sector. ADOPTED BY RESOLUTION NO. R-88-68, OCTOBER 12, 1988
