R-89-23 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA; REQUESTING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO CONTINUE FUNDING THE FLORIDA INSTITUTE OF GOVERNMENT; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL OF RESOLUTIONS OR PARTS OF RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the State of Florida created the Institute of Government in universities and community colleges throughout the state; and WHEREAS, the Florida Institute of Government serves over 400 local governmental jurisdictions throughout the State of Florida; and WHEREAS, the Florida Institute of Government helps to meet the needs of Florida's local government for professional and organizational development, technical assistance and consulting; and WHEREAS, funding for the Florida Institute of Government is vital and essential to the existence of this program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Sebastian, Florida, herein enthusiastically requests the Education Subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Education Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, and the Florida Legislature to continue strong support and funding of the Florida Institute of Government. SECTION 2. The City Council of the City of Sebastian encourages other Cities of Indian River County to adopt similar resolutions in support of the Florida Institute of Government. SECTION 3. The City Clerk is directed to forward copies of this resolution to Senator Curtis Peterson, Chairman, Senator Ander Crenshaw, Senator Robert Johnson, Senator George Stuart and Senator Sherry Walker, members of the Education Subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee; Representative Bolley Johnson, Chairman, Representative Jim Davis, Representative Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Representative David Flagg, Representative Mary Ellen Hawkins, and Representative Ray Liberti, members of the Education Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee; other Indian River County Municipalities and the Florida League of Cities. SECTION 4. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION 5. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon final passage.
