R-90-22 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, URGING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO GRANT TO MUNICIPALITIES THE PRIVILEGE OF REGULATING CABLE FRANCHISE WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF EACH MUNICIPALITY; REPEALING RESOLUTIONS OR PARTS OF RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, The Federal Communication Commission did deregulate rates for cable services; and WHEREAS, the City of Sebastian, Florida, at their October 28, 1987, Regular Meeting, did approve Resolution No. R-87-74 consenting to the assignment and transfer of a cable television franchise from Cable TV Fund VIII-A, Jones Intercable, Inc., to Falcon Cable Media, L.P.; and WHEREAS, Falcon Cable Media which now serves Sebastian, Florida, has increased basic cable rates annually. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Sebastian, Florida, implores the U.S. Congress to grant to municipalities the authority to regulate basic cable rates. Section 2. That cable companies must hold public hearings when considering rate increases. Section 3. That cable companies must assure the public of quality reception and a maximum of air time. Section 4. Ail Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Section 5. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
