HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-92-16RESOLUTION R-92-16 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE SURFACE WATER IMPROVEMENT AND MANAGEMENT (SWIM) PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature enacted the Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) Act in 1987 which directed the water management districts, state agencies and local governments to implement plans for improvement and management of the state's priority surface water bodies; and WHEREAS, the Indian River Lagoon was declared a SWIM priority water body; and WHEREAS, a management plan for the Lagoon was adopted in September 1989; and WHEREAS, a portion of the Indian River Lagoon watershed lies within the boundaries of the City of Sebastian and significantly contributes to the aesthetic, ecological and economic values of our community; and WHEREAS, SWIM funding has provided assistance to the City of Sebastian during the current fiscal year, in the amount of $10,000.00 (ten-thousand dollars) to construct an award-winning stormwater treatment system in Riverview Park, and WHEREAS, the continued funding of the SWIM program and the establishment of a permanent funding source will result in the successful continuation and completion of projects designed to preserve and restore the state's valuable surface waters such as the Indian River Lagoon system; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council, City of Sebastian respectfully requests that the legislature continue the SWIM program and establish a permanent funding source for this most worthwhile endeavor. The foregoing Resolution was moved for adoption by Councilman __~_~__/,~."~__ . The motion was seconded by Councilman //]~6~_ and, upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: Mayor W.E.
