RESOLUTION R-97-48
A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEBASTIAN, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA,
SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION FOR A FLORIDA
DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
FLORIDA RECREATION DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE
PROGRAM FOR THE BARBER STREET RECREATION
COMPLEX.
WHEREAS, the City of Sebastian, Indian River County Florida, is filing a grant application
with the State of Florida through the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sebastian is experiencing a growing demand for diverse recreational
needs within the City; and
WHEREAS, there is an existing under utilized facility consisting ofland and a building which
could provide a significant unmet need for emergency storm shelter, football practice field, small
soccer field, shutlleboard courts, basketball courts, picnic area, handicap accessible public restrooms
and multipurpose sheltered space, equipment storage, and bicycle parking; and
WHEREAS, this facility will meet an unmet need in support of recreation for a broad range
of interests and age groups; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sebastian and Indian River County are coordinating the future
orogramming and planning of recreational activities at the Barber Street Recreational Complex; and
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Sebastian held an advertised hearing on
Wednesday evening, August 13, 1997 at 7:00 P.M., for the purpose of publicly presenting its intent
to file an application for these purposes and to receive public input; and
WHEREAS, no one appeared in objection to said proposal at the advertised and noticed
meeting, and

WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of Sebastian to proceed forward with the grant
application;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Sebastian,
Indian River County, Florida this 27th day of August, 1997 that
1, The City officially approves the submittal of the Florida Recreation Development
Assistance Grant in the requested amount of $100,000;
2. The City agrees to match the grant up to $25,000 for the grant of $100,000;
3. The City Council urges the approval of the application which supports recreational
improvements and fosters intergovernmental cooperation between the City of Sebastian and Indian
River County.
This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption,
The foregoing Resolution was moved for adoption by Councilmember ~

vote, the vote was as follows:
