RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
May 19, 2003 Minutes
The Recreation Advisory Committee Meeting convened at 5:30 p.m.
The following members were present:
William Ingui, Chairman
Wayne Leboeuf,
Elizabeth Gray
Jayne Barcryk
Jessica Keaton
Staff Members present were Sally Grunzweig, Recording Secretary, Chris McCarthy, Parks
Superintendent.
Approval of Minutes: April 28, 2003 — Motion to approve by Wayne Leboeuf second by Jayne Barcryk,
passed unanimously.
New Business:
Review Workshop notes of April 28,2003 for the purpose of preparing a final set of recommendations to
the City Council, to be delivered to them on May 21 or May 28 .
Chairman Ingui provided a 10 minute presentation reflecting the outcome of the second public workshop
of Monday, April 28, 2003.
Considerable discussion took place regarding the placement of a dog park facility in one of the parks.
Wayne Leboeuf suggested the possibility of having a separate park facility for dogs only. Jane Barczyk
suggested residents gather petitions and to go to the county for a dog park. The Fiscal 2003-2004 Budget
does not have plans for a dog park. Suggestions were made to revisit the dog park facility in the Fiscal
2004-2005 Budget.
Chris McCarthy discussed the different uses for the City Hall Park which is going to be named "Municipal
Park" This park will be a multi -use park, with shuffleboard courts, baseball field, etc. Chairman Ingui
suggested having a screen installed to eliminate the possible injuries to the bystanders. Wayne Leboeuf
also mentioned the shuffleboard court sizing and the possibility of expanding them and not making them
too small.
Residents from the Bryant Court area were present to discuss their concerns. They were told that this
park would be a passive park.
Mr. Walt McCardy of 110 Bryant Court would like to see this park be developed, with the possibility of
having basketball courts, etc. Mr. McCardy presented Chairman Ingui a Bryant Court Demographics
chart. The demographics charts showed that there are different age ranges of the residents. Mid -Adults
38%, children 35% and 27% seniors, noting that 28% of the seniors are part time residents He also
informed the committee about the basketball nets in the right-of-ways on the surrounding streets, and the
danger of these nets for the children playing in the street. He presented a list of the existing basketball
courts in the area on different streets. There were 17 basketball nets in the right-of-way on the
surrounding streets. The suggestion was made to contact Code Enforcement.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
