Approval was successfully secured to expend a $74,900 grant from the Florida Boating Improvement Program (FBIP) awarded to the City of Sebastian last month to specifically finance improvements at Sebastian Yacht Club. As such, enhancements to the facility are currently being coordinated via funding from FBIP. An Agreement between the City of Sebastian and FFWC will be presented at an upcoming City Council meeting for your review and authorization. Improvements to Barber Street Sports Complex Please be advised that various improvements currently in progress at the Barber Street Sports Complex (BSSC) are anticipated to be completed later next month. Additions include the football practice filed, soccer field, sidewalk, basketball court and parking lot. Picnic tables and chairs are ultimately to be included at the park. However, as staff looks forward to alternative sites for a possible skate facility, installation of tables and chairs may be among the last items to be addressed, as the City works toward completion of the entire complex. As discussed during meetings held with residents that reside west of BSSC, staff will work to introduce other site plan schemes for a potential skate facility. However, the recommendation stands that if such a feature is to be constructed in Sebastian, BSSC is the appropriate location, as this is the community's primary active recreation area.
