HomeMy WebLinkAbout10062003 HOME OF PELICAN ISLAND TREE AND LANDSCAPE ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES REGULAR MEETING MONDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2003 - 5:30 P.M. Chairman Fulton called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Date 2. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. ROLL CALL Members Present: Chairman Cathy Fulton Vice Chairman Charles Cardinale Anne Dann Lynn Albury Henry Madsen Marsha Fusco Mary Bennett Also Present: Jennifer Maxwell, Board Secretary APPROVAL OF August 4, 2003 MINUTES MOTION Cardinale/Madsen VOICE VOTE on the motion carried 5-0 "1 make a motion to approve the August 4, 2003 minutes." 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS Chairman Fulton introduced Mary Bennett and Marsha Fusco as the two new alternate members to the Tree and Landscape advisory board. The alternates introduced themselves to the board. She also mentioned that Henry Madsen was appointed the new regular member position, taking over Ruth Davies regular position. Board Secretary, Jennifer Maxwell stated that as of the November 3, 2003 meeting she will be resigning from the Tree and Landscape Advisory Board. She further stated that the person hired for her position at the City will take over as the new Board Secretary. 6. OLD BUSINESS Update on Butterfly Garden - Lynn Albury Lynn Albury stated that the women of the SRJWC are committed to doing the butterfly garden. She also stated that she is trying to get her son who is going for his Quartermaster in the Sea Scouts to take on the project. She plans on getting together with Chris McCarthy on Monday. Charles Cardinale offered to help with the garden. The completion of the project will hopefully be by February or March 2004. Champion Trees - Chairman Fulton Ann Dann mentioned that the board should have a field trip to learn how to use the tree measuring sticks and any books on Champion Trees. The board discussed it and decided to meet on October 26th at City Hall @ 3 p.m. and then go to various areas to look for Champion Trees. Chairman Fulton will take notes of that meeting. NEW BUSINESS Arbor Day 2004 Chairman Fulton stated that this will be the last year that she will be Chairman of the Arbor Day celebration. She stated that Arbor Day will most likely be held in April. Chairman Fulton suggested to the board to bring back any ideas for the next Arbor Day celebration. MEMBER MATTERS: Vice Chairman Cardinale mentioned that the board still wants to meet with the Eco Troop at Pelican Island Elementary. The Board Secretary will contact Bonnie Swanson to see what dates are available. Vice Chairman Cardinale mentioned that the garden on the east side of City Hall needs to be cleaned up. 9.
