City Council Information Letter

United States Hiflhway One Improvement Pro~ram
During your May 24th City Council meeting, much discussion took place
relative to improvements to United States Highway One (US1) as currently
being coordinated in conjunction with the Florida Department of
Transportation (FDOT). Essentially, FDOT officials have agreed to work
with the City of Sebastian as far as addressing community needs and
concerns expressed during the May 23rd community workshop, including the
feasibility of on-site parking at existing locations, as well as consideration
relative to bicycle paths. A meeting has been scheduled to take place
Tuesday June 13th, 10:30 a.m. here in the City Manager's Office, so as to
discuss options for improvements accordingly. Mayor Barnes has agreed to
participate in discussions as a representative of City Council. Once plans
have been outlined, a second community awareness workshop will
transpire, likely later this summer.
Fuel Contamination- Corrective Action
Please find the attached letter as compiled and delivered by Mr. Charles
Vogt, Indian River County Environmental Health Director relative to
corrective action regarding fuel contamination along Indian River Drive.
Essentially, arrangements are being coordinated to expedite delivery of
funds from the State of Florida to finance clean up of a gasoline spill(s)
which have plagued the area for quite sometime now. Grant funding (no
contribution from the City of Sebastian required at all) is anticipated to be
delivered in the coming weeks. I will keep you all informed of progress
accordingly.
