HomeMy WebLinkAbout02232004 RECRecreation Committee Meeting Minutes City of Sebastian Recreation Advisory Committee February 23, 2004 Called to order by the Chairman: Roll Call: The following members were present William Ingui, Wayne Leboeuf, absent excused, Elizabeth Gray. Jayne Barczyk, Mrs. Jeannie Jessup, absent excused, and Jessica Keaton Staff members present were Linda Kinchen, Recording Secretary, Chris McCarthy, Parks and Recreation Superintendent Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the minutes as amended of the November 17, 2003 was made by Mrs. Barczyk second Mrs. Gray Passed unanimously. Old Business: Chairman states he watch the meeting on TV and it was very nice to see that the committee got respect from council. Chairman asks for the Ordinance and copy of the committee list showing dates of expiration. New Business: Item #A — Chairman states he wonders if our communications are acceptable. Councilman Barczyk states we are the only board to give feedback and appreciates it very much. Mrs. Gray states signage to parks are not being followed up Says Hardee Park should not have pets and now signs are up to allow them but to clean up after them. Mrs. Barczyk asks if she and the others can be prewarned when parks are scheduled to begin. Chris states that interviews for architects and engineers to design new parks are going on now and should be completed soon. Mrs. Barczyk asked a resident at the Schumann Park what they felt it needed and she was told swings for the little ones and maybe tot basketball. The chairman asks the committee to put resident requests in writing. Mrs. Keaton states Schumann is not a good place for tot basket ball. The chairman asks if a bench can be placed at the creative playground on the other side of the park. How much as recycled benches. Chris states they are $400 and asks the committee to give him a wish list at the March meeting. Chris asks secretary if there is money left in project. She answers yes but is earmarked for roof repairs. Chris to see what he can do. Mrs. Barczyk speaks about the IRC parks meeting. A Sidewalk is to start in February on Indian River Drive north and south sections to meet up with ours. County is expected to buy a portion of land to be used as a trail -passive park in Roseland. She states there are better feelings now that the City and County are separated. Members Comments: Mrs. Keaton helped with auditions for the first performing group for Sebastian ages 8-18. 9 little ones and 9 big ones. Chris states the city is looking down the road at building a civic center. Mrs. Barczyk states they are putting a 35,000 sq ft on in at the South County Park. The next meeting was scheduled for March 22, 2004 at 5 PM. Meeting adjourned at 6PM.
