BOARD MATTERS:
Drafting a letter - re: Violation Heatings and the new application.
The Board Secretary suggested that the Board wait to do a letter until the new Building
Official was appointed. It was noted that George Bonacci would be leaving in July.
The Board was also told that she recently learned that Code Enforcement was, in a sense,
taking over what the Construction Board usually does.
A contractor came in and asked what the outcome was on a violation he had reported to
Code Enforcement. Since it was not reported to me, I did not know what he was talking
about.
I called Code Enforcement and was informed the man was cited for being on a job
without a license. The man was fined, the fine was paid, the case was closed. I explained
that that was what the Construction Board was for. He said he was just following what
their code said. She told the Board if they read the copies of the two codes, they would
find that the Code Enforcement Code almost mirrored the Construction Board Code
where contractors were concerned.
Mr. Bonacci did talk to Greg Witt who is the head of Code Enforcement at the PD. He
said he was unaware that this was the duty of the Construction Board. My biggest
objection was that by not informing me of what was going on, it affected licensing as
well as building permits. Lt. Witt said that from now on, they would work directly with
the Construction Board.
Following a brief discussion in regards to this matter, that Board felt that this should be
discussed at our next meeting and some form of action be taken.
