HomeMy WebLinkAbout03072005 TBHOME OF PELICAN ISLAND TREE AND LANDSCAPE ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES REGULAR MEETING MONDAY, MARCH 7 - 5:00 P.M. Members practiced with tree sticks starting at 5:00pm. Chairperson Albury called the meeting to order at 5:33 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. ROLL CALL Members Present: Chairperson Lynn Albury Vice Chairperson Anne Dann Mary Bennett Marsha Fusco Charles Cardinale Henry Madsen Members Un-Excused: Ken Albrecht Staff Members Present: Donna Cyr, Recording Secretary Chris McCarthy, Parks & Recreation Supervisor APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION Dann/Cardinale VOICE VOTE on the motion carried 5-0 ~1 make a motion to approve the February 7, 2005 minutes as written." ANNOUNCEMENTS: No announcements. OLD BUSINESS: Arbor Day Celebration Sherry Hamlin, Executive Director of Keep Indian River Beautiful (KIRB), attended the meeting to confirm their attendance at the event. Garby, the mascot will also be there. Carolyn Corum is Sherry's assistant and she will be bdnging Garby and the handouts. Sherry will not be available to speak at Arbor Day. The Tree Board will hold a special meeting on Monday, March 21 at 5:00pm to discuss the Arbor Day celebration. TmeBoardMeeting March7,2005 Page 2 Per Chris McCarthy, the park is anticipated to be completed by April 1st Mary Bennett advised that Reverend Ron Thomas has agreed to give the invocation at the event. We will get the letter out soon, Marsha to get back to secretary tomorrow. Presentation of Colors, Lynn Albury is handling this. No one is scheduled at this time. She has asked the ROTC three to four times and they haven't gotten back to her. She will get a Boy Scout troop to do it if necessary. Marsha Fusco has spoken with Mr. Therdn and he would be more than happy to speak about champion trees. Christine Kelly was also contacted about speaking. She is interested and Marsha will finalize tomorrow (March 8th). Marsha has not had a call back from Ranger Hicks. At Charles Cardinale's recommendation Dr. Richard Baker will be contacted to see if he would like to speak at the event. Charles will contact him. Dr. Baker is the presiding Chair of the Pelican Island Audubon Society. He has wdtten a book on Blue Cypress. The finalized invitation list will be given to the board secretary sometime during the week of March 7th by Ms. Fusco. The invitations should go out on 3~29 or 3/30/05. The Press Release will be handled at the next meeting, March 21st. as well as the agenda, program and brochures. The board secretary will get copies of the Residential Protection flyer from Growth Management as handouts. Marsha thanked all the members of the board for their assistance with Arbor Day. Chris McCarthy has handled getting the trees and he will also be getting some seedlings to give out. He's not yet sure where the trees will be planted. We can take a walk out there at the April meeting. Champion Trees & the Hardee tree - Tabled until after Arbor Day. Work Plan for Council - Tabled until after Arbor Day. 7. NEW BUSINESS: No new business. 8. MEMBER MATTERS: Charles Cardinale thanked the Board and would still like to be involved. It was suggested that Charles be an advisor to the Board. Chairperson Albury gave information on the Gobi Fest. on Saturday, Apdl 9th, 10am - 4pm. For more information you can call Joy Coil at 321-953-5004. 9. STAFF MATTERS: Chds McCarthy is meeting with the Indian River County Environmental Lands people about the property behind the park. They got some grant money to tie all the land together with the city, county and the Boys & Gids Club. Tree Board Meeting March 7, 2005 Page 3 10.
