Champion Trees
Charles Cardinale and Neil Lagin discusses with the board about measuring the oak tree
at 841 Wentworth Street. The tree is 23 years old and they thought it was a Laurel oak.
They also felt that it could be a champion due to its size. It was suggested having a field
trip to reconfirm the measurements of the tree. If indeed it is a champion tree, they
would try to get the Press Journal to showcase it. The field trip will be set up for
Saturday, June 11th at 10:00arn after it's approved by the homeowner. Marsha Fusco
will take the minutes.
Therese Miller mentioned that she was also on the Environmental board and that they
would like to invite all members of the Tree board to their meeting Tues., night. at
6:00pm They would like to work together with the Tree board to talk about trees. Chris
McCarthy asked if the Tree board had aiready made changes to the Landscape code. It
was stated that the changes had been made a couple of years ago and nothing had
been done about it. It was decided that the Tree board would review the changes to the
LDC and then invite Council Member Coy to corne to a Tree board meeting to discuss
the changes. Have Ms. Coy take the information back to the City Council and then as a
group have the Tree board approach the Council. The Tree board is willing to work with
the Environmental board to see that the changes to the LDC are addressed. Council
Member Coy will be invited, as will all council members, to the August 1st meeting.
Henry Madsen excused himself from the meeting at 6:20pm
Shirley Hamlin, from KIRB, was invited to the meeting by Charles Cardinale to discuss
working together on beautification projects. She also asked if the board could work on
the garden / courtyard between the old City Hall and KIRB's office. She felt it needed to
be cleaning up. She stated that she would like to see the area around her building
landscaped to keep with the beautification plan. There is no money in the present
budget to handle this, maybe in October 2005. A field trip was setup to work in the
courtyard to clean it up, for Thursday, June 23rd at 5:30pm. The notice will be posted.
