HomeMy WebLinkAbout02062006 TB TREE AND LANDSCAPE ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES REGULAR MEETING MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6th, 2006 - 5:30 P.M. 1. Chairperson Albury called the meeting to order at 5:33 p.m. 2. Pledge of allegiance was recited. 3. ROLL CALL: Members Present: Chairperson Lynn Albury Vice Chair Anne Dann Neil Lagin Therese Miller Matthew Sims David Rodriguez Members Excused Absent: Mary Bennett Staff & Council Members Present: Donna Cyr, Recording Secretary Melanie Astle, MIS Dept. Advisors: None present 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION Lagin/Sims VOICE VOTE on the motion carried unanimously "I make a motion to accept the January 9,2006 minutes as written." 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Introduction of two new alternate members Matthew Sims and David Rodriguez. 6. OLD BUSINESS: Field Trip to 519 Periwinkle Drive on Saturday. January 14th at 10:00am. Members Lagin and Miller along with Advisor Cardinale measured the oak tree and could not agree on the measurement. Member Dann and Advisor Cardinale returned at a later date and measured the oak tree. It was detennined that the oak was not a Champion. A magnolia tree was measured and being the only one of this type measured at this time it is considered the Champion. It was decided by the Board that the Champion Tree List should be broken into two lists. One showing only Champions and another list showing non-Champions. Tree Board Meeting February 6, 2006 Page 2 There will be a tree measuring field trip on Sat., Feb. 11th at 11:00am at 650 Franciscan Avenue for Shirley Kilkelly. If Mr. Cardinale gets the Board secretary the address of another person tonight, she will include the additional name to the Public Notice for the field trip on Saturday. Arbor Dav - Mr. Lagin will double check with the Garden Club to see if they will still be providing refreshments. Ms. Albury is trying to get a hold of Cathy Fulton about a donation and it was mentioned that Henry Madsen might be giving some kind of donation. Donations from the Art Club have not been confinned yet. After much discussion regarding the date for the contest deadline it was decided to change it from 3/3/06 to 3/22/06. Mr. Lagin, Mr. Sims and Ms. Albury will take the contest rules to the different schools. Mr. Lagin will contact KIRB about participating in the event. Advisor Cardinale and Mr. Lagin will work with the Press for advertisement of the event. The Board Secretary will get with the MIS Dept. the information for Arbor Day so they can create a slide for both the Web site and Channel 25. Ms. Albury is still working on the presentation of colors. Mr. Lagin will get his invitation list from the Champion Tree Clinic to Ms. Albury and it will be forwarded to the Board secretary. The invitation letters should go out around the first week of March. Chairperson Albury reminded the Board that the 2006 Work Plan was finalized and we need to start working on it after Arbor Day. 7. Tape 1, side 2 NEW BUSINESS: Therese Miller brought up the preservation of native trees. It was mentioned that she bring up the matter at the 6:30pm joint meeting with the Environmental Advisory Board. Mr. Lagin mentioned what it would take to return to being a Tree City. Ms. Albury stated that during the last meeting Mr. McCarthy discussed that issue. The City would be able to reapply in December after the new trees were planted. 8. MEMBER MATTERS: No new member matters. 9. STAFF MATTERS: No new staff matters. A citizen (Ken> asked about the field trip on Saturday, Feb. 11th and he was invited to join the board. 10.
