Arbor Day - The question was brought up that we need to decided who will judge the
art and photo contest. There will be a special Arbor Day meeting on Tues., March 28th
at 5:30 pm. After the winners have been chosen we will determine the best and quickest
way to notify them. We are still looking for more prizes. Programs will be completed
during the last week before the event. Invitations will be sent out this week. Mr.
Cardinale, Mr. Lagin and Ms. Bennett will meet with the press. The trees will be planted
in the first week of April.
NEW BUSINESS:
There will be a field trip on Saturday, March 11th at 11:00 am to measure a Canary
Island Palm at Helga Dubuque's home at 581 Concha Drive. Then at 12:30 am John &
Mildred Shearer at 841 Wentworth Street have a Pindo Palm to be measured.
8. MEMBER MATTERS:
Mr. Lagin discussed possibly having a plant sale sometime in March 2008 at Riverview
Park. It was determined that this was something that would have to go before council.
Also possibly getting the Environmental Advisory Board and the Garden Club involved.
Mr. Lagin will start doing some research on it. Mr. Sims asked about vendors and how
it would actually work. Proceeds from the event would go to a local non-profit. Mr.
McCarthy recommended having a non-profit in mind when the Board goes before
Council with this idea. It looks like to Board members present like the idea.
Advisor Cardinale wanted to know if the board is still interested in going to the Scrub Jay
Habitat at Pelican Island school. Mr. Cardinale will contact the school.
The board needs to start working on the Work Plan.
9. STAFF MATTERS:
The Board secretary again brought up making sure all data was correctly completed on
the Champion Tree Record forms to eliminate any errors on letters and plaques.
Council Member Coy had the secretary distribute a copy of the "Invasive Management
Plan for the Indian River Lagoon National Scenic Byway" report for the Board to review
and make comments back to her.
