Chairperson Albury called the meeting to order at 5:34 p.m. 2. Pledge of allegiance was recited. 3. ROLL CALL: Members Present: Chairperson Lynn Albury Neil Lagin Matthew Sims (a) David Rodriguez (a) Members Excused Absent: Mary Bennett Vice Chair Anne Dann Members Unexcused Absent: Therese Miller Staff & Council Members Present: Donna Cyr, Recording Secretary Chris McCarthy, Parks & Rec. Superintendent Advisors: Charles Cardinale 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION Lagin/Sims VOICE VOTE on the motion carried unanimously "I make a motion to accept the February 6, 2006 minutes as written. 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS: No new announcements. 6. OLD BUSINESS: Mr. Lagin brought up the fact that the board needs to take more time in completing the champion tree forms. The information needs to be reviewed before it is given to the Board secretary to eliminate errors. Field Trip to 650 Franciscan Avenue on Saturday, February 11th at 11:00am. Shirley Kilkelly has the new champion Live Oak at 183 points and she has a Slash Pine at 139 points. Tree Board Meeting March 6, 2006 Page 2 Arbor Day - The question was brought up that we need to decided who will judge the art and photo contest. There will be a special Arbor Day meeting on Tues., March 28th at 5:30 pm. After the winners have been chosen we will determine the best and quickest way to notify them. We are still looking for more prizes. Programs will be completed during the last week before the event. Invitations will be sent out this week. Mr. Cardinale, Mr. Lagin and Ms. Bennett will meet with the press. The trees will be planted in the first week of April. NEW BUSINESS: There will be a field trip on Saturday, March 11th at 11:00 am to measure a Canary Island Palm at Helga Dubuque's home at 581 Concha Drive. Then at 12:30 am John & Mildred Shearer at 841 Wentworth Street have a Pindo Palm to be measured. 8. MEMBER MATTERS: Mr. Lagin discussed possibly having a plant sale sometime in March 2008 at Riverview Park. It was determined that this was something that would have to go before council. Also possibly getting the Environmental Advisory Board and the Garden Club involved. Mr. Lagin will start doing some research on it. Mr. Sims asked about vendors and how it would actually work. Proceeds from the event would go to a local non-profit. Mr. McCarthy recommended having a non-profit in mind when the Board goes before Council with this idea. It looks like to Board members present like the idea. Advisor Cardinale wanted to know if the board is still interested in going to the Scrub Jay Habitat at Pelican Island school. Mr. Cardinale will contact the school. The board needs to start working on the Work Plan. 9. STAFF MATTERS: The Board secretary again brought up making sure all data was correctly completed on the Champion Tree Record forms to eliminate any errors on letters and plaques. Council Member Coy had the secretary distribute a copy of the "Invasive Management Plan for the Indian River Lagoon National Scenic Byway" report for the Board to review and make comments back to her. 10.
