TREE AND LANDSCAPE ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES
SPECIAL MEETING
MONDAY, MAY 1st, 2006.5:30 P.M.
1. Chairperson Albury called the meeting to order at 5:33 p.m.
2. Pledge of allegiance was recited.

5. ANNOUNCEMENTS:
No announcements.
6. OLD BUSINESS:
Arbor Dav WraD UD - Went well. The Board thanked Chris McCarthy & his crew for all
their help with the event. The Board would have liked more citizens & children there as
well as having trees to give away. It was decided that the Board needs to get the
information to the schools at the start of the school year so they can work the art contest
into their curriculum. A list of suggestions for Arbor Day 2007, offered by Ms. Bennett,
were discussed. (See attached.) Need to separate Champion Tree Day and Arbor Day
more. Have Champion Tree Day in October and Arbor Day in March or April. It was
suggested having seedlings & refreshments at Arbor Day and more nurseries and other
giveaways at the Champion Tree Clinic. Mr. Almada offered his services for next years
Arbor Day.

7. NEW BUSINESS:
2006 Work Plan was discussed. The Council wants Sebastian to become a Tree City
again. Chris McCarthy is working on this.
The Board will start revising the Commercial LDC at July meeting. Board Secretary is to
invite Ms. Grohall, Growth Management Director to the August or Sept. meeting.
It was suggested that the Board measure trees on City property in off months when
there isn't anything else going on. Hereee Park has some pretty big oaks per Chris
McCarthy. Easy S..\--,
Field trip on Saturday, May 6th, to 554 Agnes Street, 857 Gladiola, and 841 Wentworth
to measure for Champion trees.
The City's garden in front of the KIRB building looks good. Mr. Almada feels he has it
under control and doesn't need any help with it at this time. It was discussed that the
signs identifying the plants need to be redone. It was decided that the Board meet at
5:00 pm before the June 5th meeting to look at the garden.
The Board Secretary is to get with MIS regarding a slide to show before the Tree Board
meetings regarding Champion Tree Program.
Invasive Manaaement Plan for I. R. Laaoon National Scenic Bvwav - Members are to
review the information and be ready to discuss at next meeting. There was discussion
that the Pepper trees and Melaleuca should be removed from developed yards. It was
suggested that it be mandatory to have these trees removed. They will bring
suggestions before Council.
Plant Sale 2008 - The Tree Board still wants to proceed with the plant sale. Mr. Lagin
was going to speak at SPOA (Sebastian Property Owners Assoc.) this evening to talk to
them about co-sponsoring the plant sale. The Board will come up with a plan, get a date
for the event from Chris McCarthy, Parks & Recreation Superintendent, propose it to the
City Manager. Then it will be presented to Council. The proceeds from the event could
go to Pelican Island, Friends of San Sebastian River and a horticulture scholarship.
Environmental Science Academy at the high school, George Anderson is the contact,
might want to be involved. Chair Albury will contact them.
