UPSTAIRS CONFERENCE ROOM, CITY HALL 1225 MAIN STREET, SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA 1. Chair Adams called the meeting to order at 6:18 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Present: Ms. Adams Ms. Yanchis Ms. Powers Mr. Slattery Ms. Beckwith Mr. Birchmeyer Ms. Simchick Also Present: Margie Reynolds, Environmental Planner Jeanette Williams, Recording Secretary 3. PUBLIC COMMENT -none. 4. EARTH DAY 2007 Ms. Adams called for a final list of participants. Ms. Yanchis said she is still in the process of confirming her exhibitors/speakers. Mr. Slattery confirmed the local charter boat captains and fishing club wives. He suggested that Officer Poore display the municipal boat and the Planner said she would check on that. Ms. Powers confirmed Patricia Shultz of the Middle School will demonstrate how to make recycled paper and Home Depot will display environmental friendly light bulbs and fertilizer. She said Home Depot will also donate birdseed and peanut butter. She also confirmed that Pelican Island Elementary School and Treasure Coast Middle School are decorating Publix grocery bags for distribution prior to the event. Temporary Environmental Advisory Committee February 27, 2007 Page Two Discussion followed on allowing people to drop off hazardous materials for recycling such as fluorescent light bulbs during the event. Ms. Simchick confirmed the painting of twenty bird houses donated by the Friends of the St. Sebastian to be hung in the Stormwater Park. She also confirmed Ilka Daniels-Gopher Tortoise Protection Council, Bruce Dangerfield- Treasure Coast Herpetological Society, and possibly Sharon Tyson-Aquatic Preserve Council. The Planner stated Michael Hughes and Joseph Duff of Operation Migration found the Earth Day advertisement on the web and would like to participate with their ultralight plane which leads migrating birds. Ms. Adams would like Mr. Duff to be the event keynote speaker. The Planner also said a box was delivered to the Boys & Girls Club to collect pine cones. She cautioned that pine cones are not in bloom at this time for bird feeder purposes but there is still time to collect them. Tape 1, Side 11 Ms. Powers said the Lynn Walsh from the North County Library asked that it be announced An Inconvenient Truth by AI Gore will be shown at the library the Thursday following Earth Day. Ms. Beckwith confirmed four master gardeners will be present. Discussion followed on a tree pruning demonstration. She stated the vermiculture speaker would not be available. Ms. Yanchis offered to contact Keep Indian River Beautiful and check with Wal- Martfor apeanut butter donation. Mr. Birchmeyer did not seek tree/seedling donations but suggested and described an exhibit called "Who is the Worst Polluter of Our Earth?" Ms. Adams confirmed Pelican Island Refuge Manager Paul Tratiak, John Galvez and Janet Barger. Ms. Simchick said the United Methodist Church is auctioning a limited number of miniature Paul Kroegel statutes and perhaps the Church could have a booth. She offered to see if Ruth Stanbridge could give a talk. Ms. Adams asked for a map of the park to arrange exhibits for the next meeting and encouraged members to establish contact with their speakers. 5.
