TEMPORARY ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MINUTES
TUESDAY, MARCH 6, 2007 - 6:00 P.M.
CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS
1225 MAIN STREET, SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA
1. The Chair called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m.
2. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
3. ROLL CALL

Sherral Smith, Home Depot
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. 1-9-07 Meeting
B. 2-6-07 Meeting
Not all members received and reviewed the minutes so approval of both minutes
was postponed until the next regular meeting.

6. CONTINUED BUSINESS
A. EARTH DAY
Sherral Smith, Capt. of Team Depot & Kids Workshop at Home Depot, stated
she will man a butterfly house booth at Earth Day. She also said Home Depot
will have energy efficient light bulbs, organic soil for display and donate bird
seed.
Ms. Powers asked if residents can recycle the light bulbs at Home Depot and Ms.
Smith said they can recycle batteries but not light bulbs at this time.
Ms. Powers stated Don Smith is willing to donate paint for the bird houses. Ms.
Simchick said the Audubon Society recommends pastel colors for the houses.
Ms. Adams reported that Michael Hughes with Operation Migration is still
planning to participate however for the next flight, all but one bird perished in the
recent Orlando tornadoes.
Ginny Koerner who submitted an application to join the Committee arrived at this
time. All members introduced themselves to her.
Ms. Adams said Mr. Hughes was planning to attend Vero Beach's Earth Day but
it was cancelled so he would be coming to Sebastian's event with the plane.
Discussion followed on Operation Migration's request to solicit donations at the
event.
The Planner reported that the band Hair Peace may perform at the event.
Ms. Adams explained that Mr. Hughes suggested opening the day with a master of
ceremonies to welcome the crowd, music for one hour, speakers/demonstrations,
music, speakers/demonstrations and close the event with music.
She confirmed the following speakers: Janet Barger, Beth Powell, Michael
Hughes, and the Pelican Wildlife Society. The following demonstrations: catch &
release offish, bat house building, paper recycling, and kid's fishing. Ms.
Simchick confirmed Ilka Daniels and Bruce Dangerfield.
Discussion followed on setting a March 27th meeting and going before Council
with final plans.

Ms. Yanchis began a list of confirmed speakers and demonstrations to include:
Archie Carr Refuge, Pelican Island Refuge, Audubon Society, US Fish & Wildlife
Fisheries, Master Gardeners, IFAS Extension Service Office, Scrub Jays,
Operation Migration, Gopher Tortoise Council, Bird Feeder Construction, Bird
House Construction, Charter Boat Captains, Paper Recycling, Environmental
Committee, Tree Board.
Ms. Powers asked if a time schedule would be developed. The Planner said it
would be probably be set after the speakers are confirmed.
7. SET NEXT AGENDA
It was discussed to have another planning meeting March 27tH
Discussion followed requesting donated peanut butter and birdseed by way of
writing on letterhead. The Planner suggested hanging the painted bird houses
at existing City parks instead of the Stormwater Park because it isn't owned by
the City yet.
Ms. Yanchis confirmed the following advertising: Pelican Brief, Channel 25, the
Park marquee, Publix grocery bags, ecumenical council announcement, and
flyers at public places.
8. Being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
