Mandara, 95, died May 9, 2017 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. She was born in Hackensack, New Jersey and lived in Vero Beach coming from Hackensack, New Jersey in 1970. Her love for singing began when she was a young woman, encouraged by her church choir to pursue a career in operatic singing. She began training in New York City and was on her way to stardom when she was swept off her feet by the love of her life, George. Filomena was of the Catholic faith, a past member of the Vero Beach Italian American Club and the Wednesday Morning Bowling League. She was a rare human being, one of God's earth angels, a pure and gentle soul with nothing but kindness and a perpetual song in her heart. She saw the positive in everyone, her gentle nature reflected back on all who knew her and all called her mom. Filomena was a devoted wife and mother and will be greatly missed. We love you mother, you are now at peace, rejoicing with the lord and your beloved husband George. It is a truly Happy Mother's Day for you. Survivors include daughters, Rochelle Norman (Edward) of Vero Beach, Deborah Kendrick (Ben) of Melbourne Beach and Marlene Sansone (Al) of Vero Beach; son, George Mandara (Natasha) of Vero Beach; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rosario "George" Mandara; grandson, Christopher "Buzzy" Norman and great-granddaughter, Brooke Lynn Hampton. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. Visitation will be held 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday May 13, 2017 Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian, FL followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Steve Guess, celebrant. Burial will follow in Sebastian Cemetery, Sebastian, FL.
