CITY RESOLUTION FAVORING FLORIDA FO

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, SU ORTING THE
CREATION AND FUNDING BY THE FLORIDA GISLATURE A
SUCCESSOR PROGRAM TO THE FLORIDA OREVER LAND
CONSERVATION PROGRAM; DIRECTING T CITY CLERK TO
FORWARD A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION O STATE LEADERS;
AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DA
WHEREAS, the Florida Forever program nd its predecessor Preservation 2000
program have immeasurably contributed to enviro ental health, quality of life, recreation, and
sustainability in Florida for this and future gener Ions; and
WHEREAS, Florida Forever has acq red over 600,000 acres throughout Florida since
2000 and allocates $300 million annual) to purchase environmentally sensitive and other
lands, and has done so through numer s successful partnerships with cities, counties, state
agencies, water managements distri s, nonprofit organizations, private landowners, and
others in achieving its conservation rposes; and
WHEREAS, Florida Fore r, through its partnerships with the Florida Department of
Environmental Protection, Wa r Management Districts, and others, produces benefits that
include clean air and water healthy fisheries and wildlife habitat; improved water supply
protection; and protected o en spaces including greenway corridors, park lands, forests, and
water bodies; and
WHEREAS, FI rida Forever has helped to save many of Florida's beaches, rivers,
bays, forests, coral efs and estuaries that provide the foundation for our $3 billion tourism
industry that attrac more than 70 million visitors each year.
NOW, T~4EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEBA IAN, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA as follows:
Sec~fion 1. That the City hereby declares its support to the Florida Legislature for the
creation~fnd funding of a successor program to the Florida Forever program.
/Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the
dent of the Florida Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives,
rnor Charlie Crist, and to the members of the Local State legislative Delegation.
Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective on April 23, 2008.

The motion was seconded by Councilmember and, upon being
put to a vote, the vote was as follows:

The Mayor thereupon declared this Resolution duly passed and adopted this 23~d day of April
