HomeMy WebLinkAbout04282008RECRecreation Committee Meeting Minutes City of Sebastian Recreation Advisory Committee April 28, 2008 Called to order by the Chairman: Roll Call: The following members were present Mr. Wright, Mrs. White, Mrs. Falcos, Mr. Kagan, Absent Excused Staff members present were Linda Kinchen, Recording Secretary, Chris McCarthy, Al Minner, City Manager, Rich Stringer, City Attorney Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve the minutes of March 24, 2008 by Mrs. Falco second Mrs. White, passed unanimously Old Business: Riverview Park improvements Shrubs and flowers around the electric boxes per Mrs. White Chris Geis from Shady Grove Nursery was available for discussion Joanne asks Chris McCarthy. regarding installation of irrigation he states spot irrigation would be done and would need drought tolerate plants. A motion to skip to the Recreation Impact Fees by Mrs. Falco, Second Mrs. White passed unanimously. Mr. Minner goes over the list of fees encumbered vs spent and remaining Mr. Wright asks the City Attorney about the Main Street project and whether the City checked to be sure Recreational impact fees could be used. Mrs. Falco feels the project is unnecessary. Mr. Wright goes on about what has been collected and what has been spent and says the City needs to plan now for 2011. Greenways, Athletic fields and a new community center were mentioned. Purchasing of lots across from Hardee Park for the Collier Creek project were suggested. A basketball court at the boys and girls club, the dog park, racquetball courts and full basketball court at Schumann. There is no land in the city for additional ball fields. Another boat ramp and parking facilities would be nice. Don says this is a boating community. Cindi says she has no update on the Farmers Market as of yet. Don asks about the portable stage and Al says a policy is in place for its rental. Parks and Recreation Regular minutes April 28, 2008 Page Two Public Input: None Chairmans Matters: Continue to focus on recreational needs. Members Matters: Mrs. White says where are we with the dog park? Mr. Minner says will be going to council to rerank the sites for a location. Mrs. Falco asks if the private sector could do it and come to the City - Mr. Minner says the rules don't change they would still have to follow LDC regulations and there is no land available in the City but public private relationship is doable. She states she spoke to several moms with kids ages 11-16 and there is nothing to do. Mr. Minner says perhaps the Community Center idea needs to be relooked at but stocking it with people may be a problem. Staff Comments: The Schumann tennis courts need resurfacing Don says maybe we need more shuffleboard courts because there are not enough for tournaments.
