HomeMy WebLinkAbout05192008RECRecreation Committee Meeting Minutes City of Sebastian Recreation Advisory Committee May 19, 2008 Called to order by the Chairman: Roll Call: The following members were present Mr. Wright, Mrs. White, Mrs. Falco, Mr. Kagan, Quit Staff members present were Linda Kinchen, Recording Secretary, Chris McCarthy, Announcement — This will be a workshop with no action due to loss of members and the position by city attorney that we do not have a quorum. Approval of Minutes: None approved — carry to next meeting Old Business: Riverview Park improvements Cindi says a Mr. Henri is coming to speak on the Farmers Market Mrs. Falco says happy the fountain is ordered. Chairman explains that 2 members cannot meet outside the meeting. It is a violation of the Sunshine Law Cindi and Joanne met with landscaper. Chris will check into the irrigation costs for the Park — A plant list will be provided by Shady Grove Nursery Joanne will contact the Chamber of Commerce regarding holding the concerts on the River side. Discussion turns to the paint stain wheel which is in Growth Management and the members say they do not feel they should have to go there to look at it — They feel Rebecca should bring to meeting if she will not give it to Chris. New Business: Racquetball courts at Schumann, boat ramps, property .purchases, community Center and the basketball courts at Boys and Girls Club should be top priority Richard Endy arrives to discuss the Farmers Market. He runs several in Brevard County Set up behind city hall in Cocoa Beach moved to A 1 A No large advertising costs, weekday events in Cocoa Village 11-5 on Wednesdays — Weekends are not good Takes about 6 weeks to start one — 10 x 10 tents promotes, manages and runs it 25% net proceeds to the City — City to Carry insurance — works off a simple contract in writing Next one is at the Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce 1 block north of Palm Bay Road on Tuesday. Says the events should be weekly rather than monthly so people get use to them and businesses will then be interested in coming. Staff Comments: None Next meeting — want Rebecca to come with the wheel Capital improvement budget and all topics on agenda from tonight not acted upon. Next meeting scheduled for June 23`d.
