Recreation Advisory Committee -Special Meeting
February 23, 2009
Called to order by the Chairman: Roll Call: The following members were present
Mr. Seaman, Mr. Wright, Mrs. White, Mr. Sims, Mr. Adams, Mr. Pelletier, Ms. Brown,
Absent excused
Staff members present were Linda Kinchen, Recording Secretary, Chris McCarthy, Parks
Superintendent
Approval of Minutes: 1/26/09 and 2/9/09 Motion by Mr. Seaman second Mrs. White
Passed unanimously
Old Business: Schumann Park -Chairman says it went to P and Z with two plans and
they approved two full size basketball courts
Mrs. White says maybe kids from school should attend the city council meeting to speak
about their requests for two basketball courts -she will try to get some of them there.
Mr. Wright will speak at the meeting on behalf of the committee.
Riverview Park: Mr. Seaman asks regarding the lights for the volleyball court again,
Chris says in the process of getting cost estimates and will budget for in next years
budget. Chris says the irrigation and landscaping should start some time next week.
Repairs to the pavilions are all completed.
Stormwater Park - Maint plan complete and will be voted on next week
Dog Park -Passed at City Council going to P&Z in March
Community Center discussion postponed until next week.
Farmers market being investigated by City Manager
Sunny speaks and says the Easy Street neighbors don't want a yard sale at that park.
Recommends Riverview Park only.
Mr. Seaman asks about the Pedestrian Bridges and when they will be open Chris says the
27tH is the target date. Mr. Seaman thanks the public for coming to the meeting
Public Input:
Bruce Inman Schumann Park vandalism -says the sheriffs department puts up a good
neighborhood watch program -maybe we need to have them do one in Sebastian.

Riverview Park now has recycle bins and squirrel nesting box, need lights for the
volleyball court with a timer on the lights 3/14 is the Pelican Island Festival and will have
a cleanup along the river that day.
April is earth day there will be a dedication at plaque by the fountain at 1 pm
Sebastian Property Owners are collecting stuffed animals for the xmas parade and will
have activities for the kids after the parade. Call 228-9938 for contact for the parade
Jim Sunnycorp from Sunnys Wildlife,com is asking for recreation ideas.
Don says he has seen Panthers, bobcats and hawks at the Preserve and wondered if there
would be any local interest for tours.
The water bowl for dogs at Riverview is missing
Chairmans Matters: Welcome to the new members -Linda please send the normal
information
Members matters: Joanne needs a park list
Mr. Seaman says halo fence would be cost prohibitive for the Dog Park
Mr. Sims says August 1st was mentioned as a completion date for the Dog Park
Thanks to the Public for coming -glad to have Mr. Minners update at the special
meeting.
Mr. Wright says the April meeting will be in one of the Parks
Mr. Adams pleased to be here
Mr. Pelletier says thanks for having me and looking forward to a good time
Staff -Little league opening day went great
Pelican Island Festival is March 14th and Home and Garden Show on March 28th and 29th
Next meeting 3/23/09 5:30 PM Agenda the same add Easy Street Park Festival
