MINUTES
TUESDAY, APRIL 7th, 2009 6:00 P.M.
City Council Chamber, 1225 Main Street, Sebastian
1. Chairperson Koerner called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m.
2. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
3. ROLL CALL:

4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: March 3, 2009
MOTION by Ms. Graves and SECOND by Mr. Nelson to approve the March 3, 2009
minutes as written, passed with a unanimous voice vote.
5. ANNOUNCEMENTS: No announcements.
6. PUBLIC INPUT: No public input.
7. OLD BUSINESS:
A. Earth Day Saturday, April 18th 2009 1 Oa to 4pm Riverview Park, Sebastian
Ms. Graves said the bird houses were going well. She would pick them up from
the schools. She was going to make a photo album of the pictures that the kids
took of their birdhouses. Ms. Graves will get 16 certificates to the secretary to
have them signed by Mayor Gillmor. These certificates would be given to the 16
entries of the contest. It was decided that Ms. Graves would announce the
winners of the birdhouse contest. The birdhouse would be displayed in City
parks. Ms. Reynolds will coordinate this with the City workers.
Chairperson Koerner showed the board the layout of the park and where the
different areas would be situated. There will be approximately 50
vendors /participants. The sites will be on a first come first serve basis. There
will be a trailer with a sign on it for the canned food drive. The food that was
collected would be picked up by the pastor at the Roseland Methodist Church.
Mr. Jim Slattery donated five bat boxes for raffle prizes.
The entertainment speakers list was reviewed. After some discussion the
Mayor (or his designee) would open the celebration at 10:OOam, then the
Spiritual Pathfinders would have their drum beating ceremony, there would be
other acts and bands performing throughout the day and at 1:OOpm would be the
Pete Harris Plaque dedication. The birdhouse winners would be announced at
3:OOpm. Raffles would be done throughout the day.

The secretary would verify the "rain dates" of the Art Show. It was mentioned
that the newspaper had the date as Saturday, April 18th. She will also check
with the Police Department to see if some of the volunteers could be used for
Earth Day to help direct people, etc.
Ms. Grave would handle the xeroscape display plants for Shady Grove Nursery.
She will also have information regarding next years "Natural Florida Yards"
contest for Earth Day.
The secretary gave the Fire Permit to Chairperson Koerner to have at the event.
Ms. Woods will get the secretary the final count of tents being used by
vendor /participants at the event and where they will be set up. The Fire
Department needed this information.
Ms. Salmon will attend the Council meeting to announce that Earth Day would be
on Saturday, April 18th.
Ms. Salmon left the meeting at 7:13pm.
Ms. Woods will touch base with all the vendors /participant regarding final
preparations.
Both the Press Journal and Hometown News were contacted.
8. NEW BUSINESS: No new business.
9. MEMBER MATTERS:
Mr. Grudens passed out a map of the Greenway Plan for the members to review.
10. STAFF MATTERS:
A. Set agenda for May meeting Recording Secretary
Review/Wrap -up Earth Day, the Mitigation Wetland Creation at Hardee Park and
the Indian River County Greenway Plan.
11. Being no further business, Ms. Koerner adjourned the meeting at 7:36 p.m.
