Conway called the meeting to order at 5:00 P.M. 2. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. 3. ROLL CALL: Present: Tim Adams Mason Bowen John Conway AI Minner, City Manager Beth Mitchell Lisanne Monier Sal Neglia Rebecca Grohall, Growth Management Director Susan Lorusso, Recording Secretary 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION by Monier/Neglia to approve the minutes of the June 8, 2009 meeting. Motion passed unanimously by voice vote. 5. OLD BUSINESS: A. FIELD TRIP UPDATE Ms. Grohall has been in contact with Pt. Salerno to visit their DCA Waterfronts Community. They are available July 14th, 16, or 17th at 4:00 P.M. It was the consensus of the committee that Friday, July 17, 2009 at 4:00 P.M. was the best time. Ms. Grohall will set up the visit. The July calendar will be regular meeting on Monday, July 13th, field trip to Pt. Salemo on Friday, July 17th, next regular meeting on Monday, August 10th. Car pooling arrangements will be discussed at the next meeting. Ms. Grohall has not heard back from the museum at the Sebastian Inlet State Park. Ms. Mitchell will get in touch with them to reserve the museum for the committee's July 13t" meeting at 5:00 P.M. Chmn. Conway asked Mr. Bowen to introduce himself which he did. 6. NEW BUSINESS: Ruth Stanbridge was unable to attend the meeting. FUTURE USES ACTIVITY At this time, Ms. Grohall set up the Sebastian Working Waterfront board and instructed committee members to discuss and write down their ideas for what they would like to see happen at the two properties, Sebastian Entertainment and the old Hurricane Harbor. She read the acceptable uses from the grant document. Suggestions from the committee included the following: Workshops and exhibitions Net making and repair Boat building Crab and fish traps Catch, clean and fillet fish Fish identification Recipes Local clam growth aquarium Local environmental impacts of residents on the commercial fishing industry A fish shack accessory not stand-alone to prepare and provide Mullet Mackerel Oysters Clams Events Seafood Fest Culinary Cook-off Boat tours and/or kayak operations Photo Opportunities Maritime safety Marine related organizations/meeting place Marine Life Sanctuary Emergency Access Point Mini-Theater Public View Deck Multi-purpose Room Fuel Depot Ice House including processing and distribution (it was mentioned that the Hurricane Harbor site was originally used as an ice house) Messrs. Adams and Bowen explained to the committee what a commercial fishing boat requires for dockage, loading, processing and said their territory runs from Pt. Canaveral south the Jupiter. Both Mr. Minner and Ms. Grohall emphasized the difficulty in acquiring DEP permits to dredge the lagoon at the Sebastian Entertainment docks, which are too shallow for commercial fishing vessels. Ms. Grohall added that the Department of Agriculture will be on board once the contracts for these sites are signed. (NOTE: Mayor Richard Gillmor arrived at the meeting at 6:20 P. M.) Other ideas discussed were having an on-site motor mechanic; invite local chef's to demonstrate their specialties, and a boating school. 7. PUBLIC INPUT Mayor Gillmor commended the committee for their excellent ideas. 8. ADJOURNMENT Chmn. Conway adjourned the meeting at 7:00 P.M.
