HomeMy WebLinkAbout07132009WFCWATERFRONTS COMMITTEE MINUTES MONDAY, JULY 13, 2009 - 5:00 P.M. Fishing Museum, Sebastian Inlet State Park Chmn. Conway called the meeting to order at 5:06 P.M. 2. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. 3. ROLL CALL: Present: Tim Adams John Conway AI Minner, City Manager Beth Mitchell Lisanne Monier Sal Neglia Rebecca Grohall, Growth Management Director Susan Lorusso, Recording Secretary Mayor and Mrs. Richard Gillmor Excused: Mason Bowen 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION by Robinson/Mitchell to approve the minutes of the June 22, 2009 meeting. Motion passed unanimously by voice vote. 5. OLD BUSINESS: A. FIELD TRIP UPDATE Ms. Grohall updated the committee on this event. She has confirmation from the Community Development Department of Martin County for committee members to visit and view the Fish House Art Center and Gallery at 4745 SE Desoto Avenue, Stuart, on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 4:00 P.M. Those planning on attending should be prepared to leave Sebastian at 2:30 P.M. The field trip notice will be posted on the public board in city hall and on the website. Mr. Adams said he spoke to Butch Olsen, who was instrumental in getting the Pt. Salerno facility up and running. Mr. Conway requested the committee's agenda be posted on the website as well as the public notice and Mr. Minner said he would get that set up. Ms. Mitchell asked if the agenda could be sent via a-mail to the members. 6. NEW BUSINESS: Ruth Stanbridge was unable to attend the meeting. As Dr. Haile was on his way Mr. Adams talked about the Fishing Museum, which opened in 1995. He said the Sembler family were instrumental in its development and donated many of the artifacts on display. Mr. Conway introduced Dr. David Haile, who gave a slide presentation from the Department of Agriculture depicting Aquaculture in Florida. He noted that Florida fish and shellfish industry is a $75 million business. Dr. Haile and the committee discussed various aspects of the aquaculture industry, and noted that the crystal clear water most people prefer seeing is not conducive to clam and oyster beds. 7. • PUBLIC INPUT Mrs. Gillmor complimented Dr. Haile on his presentation. Mayor Gillmor said the presentation was very informative. 8. MEMBER MATTERS Ms. Mitchell asked if the appraisals had been received and Ms. Grohall said the State has received them and will now send them out to a firm to analyze the results. She has no further information as this does not become public record until the state and property owners have completed the deal. There was discussion about how and where monies would be appropriated to run and maintain the facility, any work that would need to be done on the buildings, and dock usage. 9. ADJOURNMENT Chmn.
