HomeMy WebLinkAbout04272009RECRecreation Committee Meeting Minutes City of Sebastian Recreation Advisory Committee Special Meeting April 27, 2009 Called to order by the Chairman: Roll Call: The following members were present Mr. Wright, Mr. Adams, Mr. Pelletier, Mrs. White and Mr. Sims, Mr. Seaman had an excused absence, Mr. Van Arsdall, absent Staff members present were Linda Kinchen, Recording Secretary, Chris McCarthy, Parks Superintendent Approval of Minutes: 3/23/09 Motion by Mr. Adams second Mrs. White Passed unanimously Old Business: Schumann Park Update by Chris prebid done bids to open on April 14 2009 Riverview Park update by Chris, out of money, irrigation installed plants being installed will ask for more money next year. Stormwater Park Chairman says review the management plan and we will discuss in detail next meeting. Chris updates regarding the amenities for this park. Going to council on April 13 2009. Jim Sunnycamp says the Stormwater park needs awareness to the public a lot of people don't even know where it is. Dog Park Hoping to be ready by June 1 Chris says work has started and all being done in house. Rosemary Bastinto asks if dogs will be banned from other parks when the park is open she recommends that they not be banned but says that owners are out of control with their dogs and need some rules. Jim Sunnycamp says directions are necessary so people can find it. Discussion turns to the letter from Maryanne Krueger re smoking in the park Mr. Sims wants to know if there are enough signs Community Center /civic Center No discussion Farmers Market Council had some concerns and couldn't agree on items should be out to bid soon. Parks and Recreation Meeting April 27, 2009 Page two Easy St Park Festival nothing New Business: Hardee Park Mrs. White went on Sunday and said the floors need painting and the butterfly garden needs work all the plants are dead. Jarad asks how long that park has been there Chris says more than 25 years Mr. Sims likes it drives by every day Mr. Adams asks if the trail is just for walking. Chris answers yes Jarad asks whether dogs are allowed. Yes Don says needs water is a great candidate for irrigation Should remove two dead trees and the tree stumps Chairman says to remove the Farmers Market and Easy Street from next agenda Public Input: Jim Sunnycamp Why is there bleach in the fountain at Riverview Park not good for the animals- He says let it go for two weeks and call him and he will clean it if necessary. Chairman asks if he would consider adopting that park for minor maintenance and he says yes. Rosemary Bastinto Wants to adopt George Street Park with her friends Also asks why did we move the handicap parking spaces to the end of the Park. Very inconvenient. Chris says will check with sign shop to find out why. She also says the area in front of the sidewalk entrance needs a no parking sign or stripes painted there so people don't park there and block the sidewalk. Don wants ADA compliance put under old business for the next meeting Chairman's Matters: None Members Matters: Mrs. White asks can we name Periwinkle Park and put up a sign. Staff Comments: Chris says the Natural resource board will be doing a pepper tree clean up at Stonecrop very soon. Mr. Sims thanks the public for coming Parks and Recreation Meeting April 27, 2009 Page three Mr. Adams also thanks the public and suggests that Mrs. Bastinto go the council meeting with some of her concerns. Mr. Pelletier says we have a good looking city with lots of parks to look at. Next meeting will be May 18 due to the holiday.
