This letter is in response to the one you sent to the Parks and Recreation
Committee and discussed at their meeting. We hope this will better assist you and
that we have answered all of your questions.
1. Smoking in Riverview Park There have been a few problems in this park
with following smoking rules and also with dog behavior. We, parks
committee, have requested that new signs be designed that clearly identify all
of the critical park rules such as no smoking, no dogs in parks at special
events, pick up after pets, hours that the park is open, etc and there also should
be a phone number to call if someone observes bad behavior. A sign similar
to the ones that are used at the county beach areas might be appropriate.
The cigarette butts in and around the park are cleaned up regularly and found
mostly on the streets which could be from many different sources.
3. We were advised that there has not been any loss of trees in the park due to
mowing or maintenance. Also, you may be interested to know that a sprinkler
system was added which should help preserve existing plants and trees and
allow for the addition of flowering plants and shrubs.
The parks committee was approached at our last meeting by an individual that
has a great interest in the park and may decide to become a liaison to our
committee for Riverview Park. If this effort moves ahead, I would expect that
this park will receive even more attention and input from the public to
maintain it and help the public understand the appropriated use of the park.
Mary, thank you for your letter, please feel welcome to attend one of our
regular meetings to discuss your concerns.
