Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes
Called to order by the Chairman: Roll Call: The following members were present
Mrs. White, Mr. Seaman, Mr. Van Arsdall, Mr. Sims, Mr. Pelletier, Mr. Adams
Staff members present were Chris McCarthy, Parks Superintendent, Linda Kinchen,
Secretary
Approval of minutes: 10/26/09 Motion to approve by Mr. Seaman, second Mr. Sims,
Passed unanimously.
Stormwater Park Mr. Sims took a walk through the park says we should put on the
website that it is available for use.
Dog Park: Kathy Stembler says there are about 37 people for the club getting together a
list of officers hopes to plan events Mrs. White tells her any concerns should come to
the committee
Canopy Plans- a decision was made to use a partial canopy
Schumann Park Plans for the restrooms are in the works and the shade pavilions are
being built now for installation.
Mr. Sims asks if picnic tables and benches can be refurbished and there is an electric
service that needs looking into at Schumann Park.
Barber and Acorn Park this is for awareness only for future development.
New Business:
Nomination of Chairman: Mrs. White is nominated for chairman by Mr. Sims second by
Mr. Adams no other nominations Mrs. White is the new chairman
Mr. Seaman nominated Mr. Sims for vice chairman second by Mr. Pelletier Mr. Sims
accepted.
Public Input: Mr. Wright gave the committee a packet about the proposed Airport Park
would like conceptual approval from the committee tonight. Says Velocity and Skydive
in favor

Mr. Seaman asks about FAA approval. Mr. Wright says want it in writing Mrs. White
asks if all the property is airport property. Mr. Sims asks if the FAA has been contacted.
Mr. Wright says yes. Mr. Van Arsdall asks about an observation tower. Mr. Wright says
there will be ground seating only. Mr. Adams says he is in favor of the park is there
enough funding Mr. Wright says there is $800,000 available.
A motion to approve the conceptual plan by Mr. Seaman subject to FAA approval second
by Mr. Sims unanimous.
Sunny says Riverview park getting lots of compliments would like to see a butt can on
table by the volleyball court.. Pete Harris plaque needs work Volleyball area cleaned up
quite a bit also said will have the trains again this year and the Santa house will have
music Says he will attend the parade meeting
Easy Street dead tree needs to come down on the list to take care of. Need more dogs
must be on lease signs says we can get free mulch from FPL and wants to know if he can
put at the park. Yes per Chris
Wants to know if we can clean up the rest of the dog park so people can walk around the
pond. Chris says will ask City Manager. Asks if it is in the ordinance that feces pick up is
required. Chris to check.
Mrs. White says there are a lot of fire ants around the park and Chris says they attacked
that problem today.
Chairmans Matters: Would like to see everyone adopt there own park to keep checking
on them for problems or concerns. Walk them and bring any problems back to the next
meeting.
Mr. Sims says this is an excellent idea he says he will take Schumann Park
Mr. Pelletier will adopt Hardee Park
Mr. VanArsdall selected George Street park
Mrs. White selected Easy Street Park
Members Matters: Mr. Sims says Schumann has rusty water from fountain and wants to
know if we can get be benches like George Street or Stormwater Park.
Mr. VanArsdall asks about plants at Geo Street Chris to check and see what can be
done.
Mr. Seaman says congratulations to Mr. Wright and that's for his service on the
committee.
Staff December 4 is light up night
December 5 is the Christmas Parade
