HomeMy WebLinkAbout01052010NRB MinutesAt 6:00 pm the board secretary informed the members that there was no quorum* to hold the
meeting. It was decided that items could be discussed but no decisions could be made.
Members present were: Robin Graves, Eric Spokas, Barbara Salmon, and Albert Alvarez. Ken
Grudens was not in attendance.
Staff Present: Barbara Brooke Reese, MIS Dept.; Margie Reynolds, Board Liaison and Donna
Cyr, Recording Secretary
Ms. Graves informed the board that she spoke with the City Manager and he liked the idea of
Letterboxing and would like it presented to Council at the January 13th meeting. Mr. Minner
offered the services of Barbara Brooke Reese, MIS and Chris McCarthy, Parks Rec. Ms.
Graves will touch base with Mr. Minner regarding her presenting the idea to Council. Ms.
Graves will contact the Art Club to see if they are interested in making Letterboxing stamps for
kids for Earth Day. Barbara Brooke Reese, MIS Dept., will work with the board to help set up
the clues on the website site www.Letterboxing.org. Ms. Brooke -Reese explained that
everything needs to be in place (clues, boxes, stamps, etc.) at least two to three weeks prior to
Earth Day because there is an approval process done by the Letterboxing websites for first time
sites.
Ms. Graves will contact Indian River Land Trust and invite them to have a booth at Earth Day.
She also mentioned an amphibian reptile conservation group and Florida Bat Conservancy.
Mr. Spokas mentioned the National Estuary Program and Fish Wildlife. He will contact them.
Ms. Salmon is working with a teacher on ideas on recycling projects for the kids for Earth Day.
Ms. Salmon asked the board if they would be interested in cleaning up the property that is being
considered for the working waterfront. There are pepper trees and other invasive plants.
Mr. Spokas would like to see the board write a letter of appreciation to volunteers that help out
on our projects. He had some student volunteers that he would like to have letters sent to. He
will get the board secretary their information and a draft letter that could be used.
Ms. Reynolds asked the members for a backup for Mr. Grudens to present the powerpoint for
the Spoil Island project to Council on January 13th. Chairperson Graves will be the backup.
Ms. Reynolds mentioned to the board that on January 19th 22nd FDEP is doing a bird survey
on some of the islands. If anyone is interested, email Ms Reynolds and she will get you all the
information.
Being no further discussion, Ms. Graves closed discussion at 6:52 p.m.
The board secretary made an error in counting for quorum. The Board has seven regular
members and two alternates. Four members in attendance is a quorum. She was basing the
count on nine members.
