Chairperson Graves called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m. 2. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. 3. ROLL CALL: Present: Excused Absence: Robin Graves Chair Ken Grudens Albert Alvarez Eric Spokas Vice Chair Barbara Salmon Jane Schnee Staff Present: Margie Reynolds, Board Liaison and Donna Cyr, Recording Secretary 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: February 11, 2010 meeting MOTION by Ms. Salmon and SECOND by Mr. Alvarez to approve the February 11th, 2010 minutes as written, passed with unanimous voice votes. 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS: No announcements. 6. PUBLIC INPUT: No public input. 7 OLD BUSINESS: A Spoil Island Clean Up will be Saturday, May 8th at 9:00 am. Everyone will be meeting at the Main Street Boat Ramp. Kayaks Etc. will be volunteering there services for use of kayaks. Ms. Graves will follow up with Sebastian Power Squadron and Fish'n Chics as possible volunteer groups. The Eagle Scouts will be doing a field trip to construct the picnic tables and fire pits on Saturday, March 27th at Spoil Island IR1. They would like our assistance, which would be a good idea. There will be a large group out there including the Boy Scouts volunteers, FDEP and the NRB. As long as we are out there working and we fill out the appropriate form this will count toward one of our official cleanups. We would meet at the Main Street Boat Ramp. Ms. Reynolds will get the start time but it will probably be around 8:00 am or 9:00 am. The field trip using the pontoon boat to survey the Spoil Island will be on Friday, April 30th at 6:OOpm, meeting at the Main Street Boat Ramp. It is a large island so this would be fine. Natural Resources Board Meeting March 9, 2010 Page Two Earth Day 2010 Saturday, April 17th 2010 Ms. Graves updated the members regarding Letterboxing. The sites have been chosen in at the Stormwater park. Ms. Graves mapped out three clues for the park (see attached). Ms. Graves and Ms. Reynolds will get together and find a location at Riverview Park for the kick off at Earth Day for the children that attend. Ms. Graves will make up some clues that will be available at our table. Ms Salmon volunteered to make the stamp books for the Letterboxing event for Earth Day. Ms. Graves will get the clues to Barbara Brooke -Reese in MIS. Ms. Salmon will assist Ms. Graves in making some stamps. Ms. Salmon got some ideas for kid craft projects from Chris Minner. Ms. Salmon will get materials from KIRB and set up tables next to our area for the crafts. Mrs. Minner and Ms. Schnee will assist. Ms. Reynolds let Ms. Salmon know that KIRB is only open on Tuesdays Thursdays now. Ms. Graves was asked by Bruce at St. Johns, to build 12 bird houses that can be decorated at the event. It was then decided the decorated houses could be given away as door prizes. All the members identified the companies that they have gone to and received donation. The board secretary will update the outline and get it to the members. Mr. Alvarez will contact all the un- confirmed vendors. Mr. Alvarez will also contact possible speakers for the stage. Everyone will work on getting stage entertainment. The vendor list will be updated and emailed to the members. All contest winners will receive a certificate signed by the Mayor. Shady Grove Nursery is donating a tree in memory of board member Jim Slattery and one of the members needs to be available to make an announcement at the event. Ms. Graves is going to contact Randy's to see if they would do a small plaque for the tree. The letter inviting the Mayor to read the Proclamation and speak at the event will go out tomorrow. Ms. Salmon is going to create a "Sponsor Thank You" list and printout the names for the board that will be at the NRB table. Ms. Reynolds has the board. Ms. Graves will contact the Fire Department about the fire permit that is needed. People will sign our guest book and then they will get a door prize ticket. You must be present to win. All prizes will be identified in envelopes each door prize winner will pick out an envelope from a basket. Ms. Graves will get the certificates that need to be signed by the Mayor, to the board secretary. Ms. Schnee will assist where ever needed. 8. NEW BUSINESS: No new business. 9. MEMBER MATTERS: Mr. Alvarez checked on getting volunteers from the Indian River jail to help out during pepper busting projects and it was just a terrible runaround. It doesn't look like it's going to work. There is just too much red tape. Ms. Salmon asked the status of the Hardee Park mitigation. Ms. Reynolds said we are still on hold. 10.
