NATURAL RESOURCES BOARD
MINUTES
TUESDAY, APRIL 6th, 2010 6:00 P.M.
City Council Chamber, 1225 Main Street, Sebastian
1 Chairperson Graves called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m.
2. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
3. ROLL CALL:
Staff Present: Margie Reynolds, Board Liaison and Donna Cyr, Recording Secretary
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: March 9, 2010 meeting
MOTION by Ms. Salmon and SECOND by Mr. Alvarez to approve the March 9th, 2010
minutes as written, passed with unanimous voice votes.
Ms. Reynolds let the board know there will be a Sustainability Expo in Vero Beach at the
Community Center held this Saturday, April 10th from 10a 4p. Ms. Reynolds is doing a
Stormwater demonstration in partnership with Indian River County and Vero Beach.
Also this Saturday at Riverview Park there is an event to get kids "hooked on fishing
Kid will receive a fishing rod and reel and tackle box. You must register to participate.

7 OLD BUSINESS:
Earth Day 2010 Saturday, April 17th 2010
Ms. Graves updated the members regarding Letterboxing, that it's ready to go and that
there are three boxes planted in the Stormwater Park. Ms. Graves said she posted the
information on the letterboxing websites. Ms. Reynolds let the board know about the
articles in the local papers promoting letterboxing and about Earth Day. Geocaching is
listed on St. Johns River Water Management District website. The fire permit is done,
paid for and handled. Ms Reynolds has the original permit for the day of the event. The
placement of vendors on the site map was done. Each board member will get a copy of
the site map for the day of the event. There was discussion about door prizes. There

are approximately 40 prizes. Ms. Schnee is coordinating the prizes and Ms. Salmon is
creating the list.
KIRB approached Ms. Reynolds about the Natural Resources Board conducting a silent
auction using a decorated rain barrel during Earth Day and it was decided that Ms.
Reynolds will get with them for a separate event. Ms. Reynolds has a little rain garden
for display at our booth. Shady Grove Nursery offered to donate some trees. It was
decided to gratefully accept around 10 trees. Someone from the board will pick up the
trees. All board members will arrive at 8:00 am at the park. Ms. Graves gave the board
secretary the award certificates for the Mayor to sign. There was discussion on where to
make the "plant" for Letterboxing at Riverview Park. The location was decided. Ms.
Graves will make up the clues for the day of the event. Board members are encouraged
to get the public to sign our guest book (name only is fine). Every person that comes by
the booth will receive a door prize drawing ticket. There will be drawings every hour (on
the half hour starting at 9:30am). Mr. Grudens will bring in an extra roll of tickets for
the event. The updated vendor list will be emailed to the board. Ms. Reynolds will MC
the event with the help from board members. Ms. Reynolds let the board know about
the band and that they will be performing most of the day with breaks and lunch. Ms.
Salmon will double check with the Mayor about reading the Arbor Day proclamation and
opening the event.
8. NEW BUSINESS:
No new business.
9. MEMBER MATTERS:
It was confirmed by the board that the May 4th regular meeting was going to be help on
the spoil island. Mr. Grudens will check with his contact for the pontoon boat (Mangrove
Mamas). All board members are to meet at the Main Street Boat ramp a little before
6:OOpm. The Spoil Island Clean Up that is scheduled for Saturday, May 8th is still in
need for confirmed boats for the event. Kayaks Etc. has confirmed kayaks. Ms. Graves
is still waiting to hear back from the Power Squadron. All members were encouraged to
contact people with boats that would be available for the island clean up.
10. STAFF MATTERS:
The Hardee Park Wetland project is being done by a private firm so the board will not be
doing this project. Another eagle scout has contacted Ms. Reynolds regarding heading
up a CR512 Pepper busting project. This is something the board can discuss at a later
date.
11. Being no further business, Ms. Graves adjourned the meeting at 7:42 p.m.
