R -10 -24 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, VOICING CONCERN REGARDING THE DETERIORATION OF THE ARCHIE SMITH FISH HOUSE AND URGING INDIAN RIVER COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO ENSURE THE PRESERVATION OF THIS HISTORIC PROPERTY; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICT; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, in 2004 the voters of Indian River County authorized $50 million in bond financing for the purchase of environmentally and historically significant parcels of land; and WHEREAS, the Archie Smith Fish House residence and office was constructed in 1927 and the ice house was added in 1931, this property has been placed on the National Register of Historic Properties; and WHEREAS, in January 2007 Indian River County purchased the historic Archie Smith Fish House in January 2007 utilizing the bond funds; and WHEREAS, Indian River County had formulated plans to preserve and protect this historic property by fully redeveloping the former residence and office, as well as renovating the ice house and docks; and WHEREAS, recognizing that fishing is a heritage industry that has seen significant losses; and WHEREAS, recognizing that historic preservation and cultural tourism brings economic development opportunities; and NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN HEREBY DETERMINES, FINDS, AND RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council, on behalf of the citizens of the City of Sebastian, calls upon the Board of County Commissioners to prioritize funding to protect and preserve this historic site. Section 2. hereby repealed. CONFLICT. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are Section 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This resolution shall become effective upon adoption. The foregoing Resolution was moved for adoption by Hill The motion was seconded by Coy and, upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: The Mayor thereupon declared this Resolution duly passed and adopted this 11 day of August, 2010.
