HomeMy WebLinkAbout03012011NRB5. ANNOUNCEMENTS: 6. PUBLIC INPUT: No public input. 7 OLD BUSINESS: HOME OF PELICAN ISLAND NATURAL RESOURCES BOARD MINUTES TUESDAY, MARCH 1, 2011 6:00 P.M. City Council Chamber, 1225 Main Street, Sebastian 1. Chairperson Graves called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. 2. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. 3. ROLL CALL: Present: Excused Absence: Robin Graves Chair Eric Spokas Vice Chair Albert Alvarez Jane Schnee Tara Howe Staff Present: Margie Reynolds, Board Liaison and Donna Cyr, Recording Secretary 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: February 15, 2011 meeting MOTION by Ms. Howe and SECOND by Ms. Graves to approve the February 15, 2011 minutes as written, passed with unanimous voice vote. Ms. Howe announced that the next meeting of the Green Angles will be the 14th of March back at Riverview Park at 6:OOpm. A. Earth Day 2011, Saturday, April 23rd 9am 3pm Ms. Graves passed out a revised vendor list. She is still waiting on applications from groups that have confirmed. Mr. Alvarez will assist in calling these groups to confirm and request applications. Ms. Schnee will go and see Mr. Steve Philipson at About Kayaks and get his application. Ms. Howe is going to contact Indian River Seafood about having a food booth. Boys Girls Club has needs to be contacted again. Waste Management needs to be added to the list. They requested a booth at the January meeting. No tables or fire extinguishers will be provided to vendors. All food vendors must have a fire extinguisher. Sebastian Police Officer Hepfer will be bringing the Police boat out to the event. Rosemary Bostinto will have a booth for the bird feeders but needs the peanut butter bird seed donated. Ms. Schnee sent a press release to the Press Journal and said that she hasn't seen anything yet. It was mentioned that if we can't advertise the contests there's no real reason the have them. Ms. Reynolds suggested changing the article to more of a list of events and keep it very simple that way the PJ might be more incline to put it in the paper. The flyer for the event is on the website and on Channel 25. It was suggested to remind vendors of the deadline for entry forms. Ms. Howe was going to email local teachers to get the word out at schools. Natural Resources Board Meeting March 1, 2011 Page Two B. Champion Tree Program It was decided that the first tree measuring field trip would be on Wed., March 16th at 2:OOpm and the next would be Sat., March 19th at 2:OOpm. Ms. Reynolds will get the board secretary the addresses so a Public Notice can be posted in the lobby of City Hall. Members will meet at City Hall then go on to the locations. 8. NEW BUSINESS: No new business. 9. MEMBER MATTERS: Ms. Howe asked about recycling bins at City parks. She also asked about applying for grants for this. Ms. Reynolds let her know that you must be a 501 -3c not for profit company. The City doesn't have the manpower to maintain recycle bins in all the parks. This would be something that organizations could do as a fundraiser. Ms. Reynolds recommended talking to the Boy Scouts, that they have a good program in place. 10. STAFF MATTERS: Ms. Reynolds mentioned to the board needs to thinks about scheduling the four required island cleanups to IR1. Connor McKenna is the Eagle Scout that the board will be assisting with picnic tables and B -B -Que for island IR9. 11.
