On July, 23rd, 2011, the Natural Resources Board of Sebastian met at the Main Street boat ramp around
8:OOam. At that time the board and volunteers departed on boats to Spoil Island IR1, Island IR9 and the
other islands located in the Indian River Lagoon, to conduct a clean up.
The group going to IR1 arrived around 8:30am at the island. The boat for the board was provided by
Captain Gilbert Gordian Jr.
We had a crew of 8 volunteers in attendance on IR1 to total 20 hours labor.
The group succeeded in removing 10 trash bags (x's 30 Ibs), plus 2 pallets, 1 door, 1 table, 1 rolling desk
chair, a number of folding chairs, assorted pieces of metal, ice cooler, and random junk. There were
also bottles and cans for recycling.
Other board members went to other islands and provided assistance with cleanup work. The boat that
went to IR9 & IR11 collected about 250 Ibs of trash.
Field trip ended at approximately at 12 noon.
