RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES OCTOBER 24, 2011 The Sebastian Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order by the Chairman. Roll Call was taken and the following members were present: Mr. Tenerowicz, Mrs. White, Mrs. Webster, Mr. Simpson, Mr. Adams, Mr. Scott was absent and Mr. Sims was Absent excused. Staff inembers present were Linda Kinchen, Secretary; Chris McCarthy, Mr. Minner arrived at 7:30 Pm APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Tenerowicz made a motion to approve the minutes from the September 26, 2011 meeting. Second by Mrs. Webster passed unanimously. OLD BUSINESS - NONE NEW BUSINESS: Phil Matson Presentation — Mrs. White introduces Mr. Matson from Indian River County MPO. Mr. Matson shows his presentation. Mr. Simpson gives a short presentation of his ideas for the Greenway Mr. Simpson says he invited Mr. Steve Philipson to talk about kayaks but he did not show up Also VeroBello.com, Vero Triathlon and Sun Runners also rent kayaks PUBLIC 1NPUT: Tim Cobb, asks Mr. Matson if they use the money for other areas to do work now how does it get replaced. Mr. Matson says they get more money each year so it is just reallocated. Says he would like to see a second volleyball court at Riverview park also the net needs a cable — They would like to have a tournament at the Clam Bake so would like the court installed by then. Says would like to see the sand without shells and lights if possible. Chris says he will talk to Mr. Minner but having it installed by the clambake is pushing it. Also he says the netting on the north side of the park needs to be taller at least 8 ft high. Chris says Mr. Minner said no to that. Mr. Simpson says maybe shrubbery would work. Parks and Recreation Minutes October 24, 2011 Page Two PUBLIC INPUT CONTINUED Scott Nelson 426 Park Avenue — Easy Street park improvements light issue — in favor of the lights would like the committee to move forward as soon as possible put more lights by the oak tree. Jim Sunnycalb — says the volleyball group is awesome and we should put a bleacher there for people to watch. Also in favor of the lights — He says the Pete Harris plaque is missing and it is okay for temporary. Also says the lights on the Christmas tree go out all the time — Chris says the tree is rented and will talk to them per Mr. Minner to see if they can change the bulbs. Sunny says led lights are the best. He says people are letting their dogs off lease in the overflow parking area. The County does not supply doggie bags — people should bring their own. The dog park anniversary need a recycle can there — December 3rd is the xmas parade bring your dogs in costumes. CHAIRMENS MATTERS; Mrs. White asks about the xmas movie in the park — Chris will get available dates — Easy Street near the playground would like to see a can for butts MEMBERS MATTERS Mr. Adams says would it be more cost effective to buy the equipment — Chris says it is better for Brevard County to do the movies if we are only doing 3 or 4 a year. He does not recommend the purchase. Blossom park looks good but it is not used much Mr. Tenerowicz says Filbert Street Park has a lot of weeds in play ground area — Barber Street parking area needs restriping at the baseball iields Mrs. Webster says would like little league to run the concessions at the movie in the park if possible. Chris says the Lion's Club handles that. Mr. Simpson says the parks look great and putting in a second court at Riverview Park is a good idea.
