MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 27, 2012
The Sebastian Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order by the Chairman.
Roll Call was taken and the following members were present: Mr. Tenerowicz, Mrs.
White, Mrs. Webster, Mr. Simpson, Mr. Adams, Mr. Sims & Mr. Scott was absent.
Staff inembers present were Linda Kinchen, Secretary; Chris McCarthy, Al Minner
ORGANIZATIONAL: Mr. Minner speaks as to the reason for the request and says it
should be done every year.
Mr. Tenerowicz nominated Mr. Simpson for Chairman, second by Mrs. Webster — There
being no other nominations — Mr. Simpson was elected the new chairman
Mr. Tenerowicz nominated Mr. Sims for Vice-chairman , Mr. Adams made the second —
There being no other nominations Mr. Sims was elected Vice-Chairman
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mrs. Webster made a change to the minutes adding The words Easy Street Park to the
minutes a motion to approve the minutes as amended from the January 23, 2012 meeting
was made by Mr. Tenerowicz. Second by Mr. Simpson passed unanimously.
Mr. Sims arrived at the meeting at 6:05 PM
OLD BUSINESS — MR. MINNER GIVES A CURRENT UPDATE ON ALL
ITEMS
1) Volleyball court at Riverview Park — in the process of being taken care of — no
lights at this time per Mr. Minner.
2) Stonecrop — delayed Mrs. White wants to clear exotics — Mr. Minner asked her to
slow down due to the public — need a new public meeting before we do anything.
Send out a notice to the public then can send to city council put back on the
agenda for the April meeting — Mr. Simpson says can reach the river from there.
3) Schumann — should see construction in approximately two weeks can have a
grand opening in the summer.
4) Indian River Drive sidewalk — Before the committee writes a letter, the council
needs to be involved — Mr. Matson says the monies have been reallocated
elsewhere Any letter should go to the Preservation Board — Mr. Minner to speak
to Mr. Matson and he will make a draft letter and update at the next meeting for
the 3-14 council agenda.

Mrs. White says the committee should pull up Melbourne's website and compare it to
what we would like to see. Mr. Minner says our website is already to go.
NEW BUSINESS:
Mrs. White introduces Robin Graves who does a presentation on letter boxing.
Mrs. Graves says there are three boxes at the Sebastian Stormwater Park — listed on
website and word of mouth — stamp inside the visitors use on there paper — put their
stamp in the box — Letterboxing.org — AtlasQuest.com — Mr. Tenerowicz asks if park is
the only one — No, Mrs. Graves says there are others in area but not by the City. Mr.
Adams asks if this is on the City website - no.
PUBLIC INPUT:
Jane Schnee — has property on Barber Street to keep as conservation just wanted the
committee to be aware of it and anyone can call her if they want to tour the property.
Currently habitat restoration is going on.
Marcia Cotes — Dog Park requests — Wanted to know if the park will close to fix the
potholes. Answer no
Water ponds at the entrance to the small dog park can something be done — Also the
fence needs to be anchored down — would like to see two more benches and if possible a
kiosk — What is the start date for the walkway and trails, Restroom issue will be address
next budget year.
Jim Sunnycalb — Wants handicap access slabs at the Easy Street Park under two tree
locations — Mr. Minner says not done yet will be sodded — Also would like to see a
handicap picnic table and pad- also workers are driving over the sidewalk to get to the
trash cans can they be put on the other side of the walkway. Dog Park new signs are great
easier to read. Schumann Lake is there a ramp- answer yes but it is small — Riverview
Park says there are 5 baby squirrels in the squirrel box — Mr. Tenerowicz asks if we can
put in two handicap spaces at Easy Street.
CHAIRMENS MATTERS;
Mrs. White says letter boxing, Easy Street lights and stonecrop for the next agenda.

MEMBERS MATTERS
Mr. Sims — Barber Street Park Playground Equipment has been removed — thanks for the
fast work — will we add more — Mr. Minner says right now no — will address at budget
time. — Mrs. White asks about the canopy — still in the budget to be installed.
Mrs. Webster — Nothing
Mr. Adams — Saw in Hollywood a spinning dish at a playground thought it would be nice
for one of our parks will bring back info if he can find any.
Mr. Tenerowicz — Says March 17th is the Pelican Island Festival and congratulations to th
SRHS girls
Mr. Simpson — Easy Street lights look great — would like to pursue a bike trail at
Stormwater Park — Next budget year we need to get creative at the Playground where we
removed the castle also shows a possible map for blueways. Would like to see a canoe
launch at North Indian River Drive Observation area. Mr. Minner will check with MIS
on the parks update.

With no other business to come before the Parks and Recreation Committee, Mrs. White
declared the meeting adjourned at 7:35 PM.
