RESOLUTION NO. R-12-34
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEBASTIAN, INDiAN RIVER
COUNTY, FLORIDA, URGING MANAGERS AND OWNERS OF
PRIVATE, COMMERCIAL AND RETAIL PROPERTIES WITHIN THE CITY
OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA AND THE GREATER SEBASTIAN RIVER
AREA TO CAREFULLY CONSIDER THE CREDENTIALS AND BONA
FIDES OF ANY ORGANIZATION THAT REQUESTS PERMISSION TO
SOLICIT CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS FOR THE BENEFIT OF
VETERANS; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICT; PROVIDING FOR
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the citizens and residents of the City of Sebastian are justifiably proud of
the men and women who have served in every branch of the American military and who have
protected our Nation and our flag; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sebastian is fortunate to have two of the leading National
Veterans organizations within our City limits:
American Legion Post #189

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10210

Sebastian, FL 32958 772-589-3405; and
WHEREAS, these finro Veterans organiaations provide essential services to the Veterans
within our community and within the greater Sebastian River Area; and
WHEREAS, the owners, and managers of private, commercial and retail property may
be asked to permit "Veterans° organizations to solicit charitable contributions on their properties
within the City of Sebastian; and
WHEREAS, not all of these organizations provide services to Veterans within the City of
Sebastian or the greater Sebastian River Area; and
WHEREAS, simply wearing camouflage clothing and combat boots may not establish
that a person has served in the American armed forces, or is representing American Veterans.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEBASTIAN, as follows:
Section 1. That the owners and managers of private, commercial and retail properties
within the City of Sebastian and the greater Sebastian River Area are encouraged by the City
Council of the City of Sebastian to carefully consider the credentials and bona fides of any
person or organization that reques#s permission to solicit charitable contributions on behalf of
American Veterans.
Section 2. CONFLICTS. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed.
Section 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This resolution shall take effeet immediately upon
adoption.
The foregoing Resolution was moved for adoption by Council Member
The motion was seconded by Council Member and, upon being put into a
vote, the vote was as follows:
