HomeMy WebLinkAbout11252013 PR Minutes RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES NOVEMBER 25,2013 The Sebastian Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order by the Chairman. Roll Call was taken and the following members were present: Mr. Tenerowicz, Mrs. White, Mr. Sims, Mr. Paschall, Mrs. Webster and Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Flescher was absent Excused.. Staff members present were Linda Kinchen, Secretary; Chris McCarthy, Parks Superintendent, Al Minner City Manager and Joseph Griffin, Interim City Manager APPROVAL OF MINUTES AUGUST 26,2013 & OCTOBER 28,2013 A motion to approve both of the minutes was made by Mr. Sims second Mr. Paschall — passed unanimously OLD BUSINESS—CIP CONCRETE IN DUGOUT Mr. Minner says this is a good idea and the city will put turf over the top to make safe and pretty. Mrs. Webster says she is in favor of doing, Mr. Tenerowicz feels it is a safety issue, Mr. Sims wants clarification wasn't at the last meeting. Mr. Minner says will be a broom finish for safety. Mr. Tenerowicz says okay to the batting cages but no to the dugouts—this is his personal opinion. Mr. Paschall is in favor there is walking on concrete all around the park—no different Mrs. Nelson feels it is a good thing Mrs. Webster is in favor Project will stay in the budget as requested. NEW BUSINESS: Mrs. White sent an email to staff with some questions from the minutes: Mr. Minner answers all of the questions for her. Mr. Minner tells the committee this is his last meeting and the Mr. Griffin will be taking over. Mrs. Webster says it would be nice to have Mr. Griffin at the meetings. PARKS AND RECREATION MINUTES 11/25/13 Page 2 There is $100,000 for new sidewalks and $25,000 for replacement sidewalks in the capital budget. — Mr. Minner tells them that Schumann asphalt side walk near the school will be the first to be replaced. And for the new sidewalks George Street and Wave by the Charter school will be done—no other areas have been chosen yet. Mrs. White asks about the Tulip project — Mr. Minner says the grant has been awarded and will include additional parking. Mr. Paschall says the area at Riverview where the Pelican is on the ground looks ratty and needs some work. Mr. Minner says it was fixed twice already but maybe needs to be torn up and replace plain without the pelican. The tennis wall will be on the next meeting for discussion was left behind the Police Department for now but can be moved. The trail signs will be on the next meeting. Community Center needs assessment—Mr. Minner sees the need will be from the general fund could be small or big. — First we must pick a consultant get the contract to council do the assessment and then what do we want to do. Mr. Minner recommends not to do the electric motors in waters or at the Stormwater park not designed for fishing, boating, etc. PUBLIC INPUT; Randy Hines 625 Bayharbour Terrace — Sebastian speaks about the tennis/racquetball court. —Randy recommends that it be a racquet ball court a 20 ft wall with side walls so it can be a multi use facility. You can't play racquet ball on a tennis wall. A Design Properly B. Permits Mr. Hines volunteers to work with Chris McCarthy on the design and construction Jerome Adams, Councilman Speaks about the Community Center — says safety first — a railing is missing on the playground area—already in the works The center needs a defibrillator and a sign Sunny Capp—Will miss Mr. Minner- Riverview Park—Pete Harris sign needs glue With regards to the pelican mural at the river—need to save it and possibly put up an arch if we are tearing it out. PARKS AND RECREATION MINUTES 11/25/13 Page 3 Says the Parks and Recreation website needs the meeting time updated and new members added. Says the xmas parade is the 7th at 6PM–on the 21st of December at Laport Farms family night and Coastal Community Church will be having a family event on the 24th at the park. CHAIRMANS MATTERS: Mr. Tenerowicz says the water fountain at the Creative Playground has been installed, the walls are up at the restroom at the dog park there is a sink hole at the dog park and new basketball rims are being installed at the BSSC. If anyone needs to get to him his email is down and can call 589-9099. MEMBERS MATTERS: Mr Sims–Pleasure working with Mr. Minner says the creative playground needs repair– Chris says his people are working on it. Mr. Paschall–Riverview look out where the telescopes are needs repair on boards. Mrs.Nelson says congrats to Mr. Minner and Easy Street picnic table needs work. Mrs. Webster has nothing but thanks to Mr. Minner Mrs. White Sorry to see Mr. Minner go STAFF COMMENTS; None Next meeting is January 27, 2014 With no other business to come before the Parks and Recreation Committee, the meeting adjourned at 7:30 PM Approved,,Ianuary 27, 2014 Regular Meeting.
