HomeMy WebLinkAbout02242014PR MinutesRECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES FEBRUARY 24, 2014 The Sebastian Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order by the Chairman. Roll Call was taken and the following members were present: Mr. Tenerowicz, Mr. Paschall, Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Flescher, Mrs. White was absent and Mr. Sims and Mrs. Webster were absent excused. (Mrs. White arrived at 6:42 PM. Staff members present were Linda Kinchen, Secretary; Chris McCarthy, Parks Superintendent, APPROVAL OF MINUTES JANUARY 27, 2014 A motion to approve the minutes was made by Mrs. Flescher, second Mr. Paschall — passed unanimously OLD BUSINESS — CIP TENNIS/RAQUETBALL WALL Mr. McCarthy says next to the Boys and Girls Club is the best location. Mr. Hines who did the drawings is here and will speak to the committee and answer any questions. Mr. Paschall is in favor, along with Mrs. Flescher. Mrs. Nelson asks if it fits in back there and Chris reminds her there are tennis courts back there. Mr. Tenerowicz asks if we own the land or the Boys and Girls club — The City owns the land per Chris. A motion to move forward was made by Mrs. Flescher second Mrs. Nelson passed unanimously. TRAIL SIGNS MAP Restroom symbols are missing add picnic tables to George Street also need to add the handicap playground at Friendship Park — the North County swimming pool and splash pad and change the name of Riverside park to Riverview park. NEW BUSINESS; - Fishing in Parks Mr. McCarthy speaks on this matter and asks the committee what they would like to do. Catch and release fishing only is discussed. The management plan for the Stormwater Park would have to be changed. Mrs. Nelson asks who will enforce — Chris says kids are doing it now. Mr. Paschall says decision should be unanimous for all parks and catch and release is safer and healthier. Mrs. Flescher says all parks should be catch and release. PARKS AND RECREATION MINUTES 2/24/14 Page 2 A motion to make all parks catch and release was made by Mr. Paschall second Mrs. Flescher — Mr. Tenerowicz voted No motion passed PUBLIC INPUT; Jim Sunnycalb — Easy Street is full of bass and should be catch and release. Would like to see a sign at Kildare Park. Easy Street should show fishing on the map. Riverview Park — one of the lights at Volleyball court flickers he put blue tape on them so we could find it. Can we pressure wash the picnic tables they look pretty bad. New solar cans are freaking out some of the people but they are a great asset. CHAIRMANS MATTERS: Mr. Tenerowicz says a sign at Kildare Park would be good — the Dog Park is just waiting for the hand rail. Mrs. White arrived at 6:42 PM Mr. Tenerowicz says the Pelican Island Festival is on the 150' of March and there is a concert in the park on the 7`h. MEMBERS MATTERS: Mrs. White speaks about MPO for trail grant trails in the Stormwater Park are planned Mrs. Flescher asks what ever happened to the Tennis Grant — Chris to check and bring back next meeting. She says the Garden Club fountain shoots straight up and wonders if it can be adjusted also would like the city to suggest memorial benches at this park — George Street Park looks great. Mrs. Nelson says Hardee looking good and she agrees with a sign for Kildare. Mr. Paschall- sidewalk at the Charter School is in and wonders if it can continue down Fleming to Harbor Point PARKS AND RECREATION MINUTES 2/24/14 Page 3 STAFF MATTERS: Chris says the city attorney needs to review the Impact ordinance to see if it can be changed. He has been given the okay to get business cards for the committee. Next meeting is March 24h, 2014 at 6PM With no other business to come before the Parks and Recreation Committee, the meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM Approved ch 24th, 2014 Regular Meeting.
