HOME OF PELICAN ISLAND AGENDA TRANSMITTAL Subject: Agenda No. Update — Presidential Streets Department Origin: City Manager Administrative Srv4: Ap rov for Submittal by: City Attorney: G9' City Clerk: Date Submitted: 9 NOV 11 A Wef, City Manager Council Date: 16 NOV 11 Exhibits: NS Plans EXPENDITURE REQUIRED: AMOUNT BUDGETED: APPROPRIATION REQUIRED: None at this Time Proposed $310,000 — FY 12 DST None at this time. FUND SUMMARY Frank Watanabe from Neel- Schaffer will be providing Council an update on the "Presidential Streets" project. If you recall, in August a similar update was provided and Council opted to remove the "open" ditch design. The updated design will be presented for Council review. In addition, some consideration may be given to increasing the project size to include drainage improvements beyond the project parameters to include problem areas identified along the intersections of Washington /Cleveland and Indian River Drive. Should this additional work be considered an estimate to expand the project would be $19,500 for additional engineering and $150,000 for underground pipe and additional baffle boxes. These funds can be found be shifting other project priorities and through potential savings on the US 1 Project. Mr. Watanabe will address these drainage concerns in his presentation. RECOMMENDATION No specific action is required, staff seeks Council direction and to return the matter to council after further research. We are good to go with both items. 1. FEMA FIRM presentation on the status and the good news of no additional surveys or LOMA — informational item 2. Status update of the Presidential Street Design and approval for additional engineering and survey at $19.500 for the drainage analysis to complete the St John's permits At the last update presentation to City Council on Aug 10, 2011, we presented the conceptual plans which Council approved with the following: • Street design with two -way travel and parking • Streetscape — parking with stamp concrete • Drainage — underground drainage pipes with curbs and gutters • Add features; sidewalk, lighting, trees and benches • Martin is only a pavement overlay. Based on the direction for drainage pipes and no swales, we design the plans as shown with all of the above items. The additional engineering fee is to cover the drainage analysis. There are two additional fees: 1. Cleveland St drainage and connection of Indian River Dr drainage (900 ft) - $14,000 2. Washington and Indian River Dr drainage (325 ft) - $5,500 Total additional engineering /survey is $19,500 Let me know if you have any questions Frank Watanabe Neel- Schaffer, Inc.
