Gentlemen and Ladies:
My prediction is that if the City of Sebastian enacts shared parking of city-owned
property with private businesses that it will be a major mistake.
The City lost a wonderful opportunity more than 20 years ago when the then City
Council turned down the purchase of the 5-acre CavCorp property which would have
been an additional 2 V2 acres for the City's future needs. In less than 10 years there will
once again be a shortage of parking for public use, but the availability of new land to
rectify this problem will be non-existent.
With the expected future growth, it seems to be prudent to design the City properties to
serve the City's needs to accommodate functionality and appearance. Let's make the best
of the land the City has now. Our existing boat ramp, park, picnic area, playgrounds are
great amenities. Let's keep their attractiveness by providing enough parking to use them.
We have the Intracoastal and the Inlet, which lures boaters to our area. I believe if we
give up parking now, we will be sorry later.
Making decisions now based on private individuals' needs without considering future
public needs is a step backwards in planning and thinking.
Sincerely,
Dan Preuss, Sebastian Property Owner
